Well the DE version is much better, if you played the original you'd know the complaints are justified. Pretty much every gameplay complaint was nearly addressed in DE, I give them props for finally swallowing their pride and listening to feedback.

DMC1's combat is very different from DMC3 and 4. Since DmC was trying to emulate those two games rather than DMC1, it's hard to compare.

That have extremely obvious tells and can be parried just by mashing. And they do spend large quantities of time standing around like a bunch of piss-ants.

No Styles, though, so ultimately, DmC Dante actually ends up having far less overall moves than DMC4 Dante. Without Gunslinger, each firearm only ends up with four or less moves each, which is irrelevant because the guns are shit in this game. Ebony and Ivory have never been weaker. Speaking of which, some weapons are obviously more effective than others, to the point where the only reason you'd bother with Angelic weapons with their piss-poor a lot of the time is when you run into a blue enemy. Color-coded enemies are another major limiting factor, since it decreases the number of options you can use during those particular situations.
