My monitor died and I'm stuck with an old SD CRT. How do I get modern games to support 720x480 resolution?

oh, well I guess that would depend on the game. Anything like bethesda games with easy to change configs would probably work fine, and I'm sure some games still support it seeing as how 800x600 is still an option.

Could downscaling from 800x600 work at all? I'm primarily worried about how everything will scale. Dead Rising on a SDTV way back was difficult to look at as you could barely see anything.
