What visual enhancement mods are actually good? HD Texture packs usually ruin the consistency of the art design, Skyrim mods are straight up ugly with very few exceptions and enough has been said about the Half Life 2 Cinematic mod.

Sikkmod+POM for id Tech 4 games wasn't bad.

I took this shot with extremely exaggerated settings, mind. DoF isn't really supported and crashes the game between levels half the time.

Skyrim has some good ENBs, but most of the texture mods are inconsistent as all hell.
That and there's people who seriously will have 4k textures for potions and items.

For audio there's Audio Overhaul which is fantastic for the most part.

people reject this simple reality, because they first choose a "goal" in their mind, such as realism, and prefer things that make the game look more like their goal

hardware manufacturers depend upon this aspect of human nature, and it never fails. The fact that the art and "the medium the art appears on" are not actually closely related is simple and obvious, so people quickly discard it as uninformative

and not only that, but most game engines conform to this truth without you even realizing it, it's simply not possible to improve the resources the game already uses, all you can do is apply a bunch of post-processing crap on top of what the game is already doing

I will be honest. I really like Cinematic Mod if you take out the Models. I think it looks a million times better and feels more alive. The Character Models are pretty bad, but if you just use the Original Ones its fine honestly. I never got the hate boner /v/ has for it.

Just for screenshots. However, turning on motion blur and setting it low helps to cover up screen tearing without having to use vsync. However I doubt anything I can say will convince you beyond your I'm-fitting-in hatred for certain effects.

Most texture mods come in two categories.

1. Uprezzed and sharpened the original texture in photoshop. These are retarded as fuck.

2. Actually new textures, usually look like crap because zero good art direction. Often they are just photosourced pictures.
