Sprites are trash, music is trash. Good mechanics but no charm whatsoever
Better than recent Harvest Moon games, worst than older Harvest Moon and Rune Factory 3 and 4.

I don't feel attached to most of the things in the game for some reason.
Farming wise it feels much easier. You simply get better crops from easy to make fertilizer. You can only talk and milk your animals. You don't even have to worry about feeding them.
Everything is on a much bigger scale. Bigger map, bigger farm, more people to talk to, more items to make and gather. But it all feels kind of shallow. You feel like you progress a lot faster too in everything. There's no rush to get anything done, nothing on the line. I still don't care about most of the town people and I'm on my second year.
Dislike the art but I'm a bit of a weeb so that's to be expected I suppose.

There's a mod to change the faces to more of a manga/anime style.
I like that its more western then rune factory/harvest moon. No, i dont want to marry some touhou looking char or person with cat ears. While harvest moon has asians working on a western farm.
Also the multiplayer aspect of the recent harvest moon games turn me off. Getting your farm to the top in year 1 because you got some rare seeds. Or worse, being locked out of a certain crop because you need wifi trade

Game is fun and large, lots of stuff to do and developer is pretty nice aswell.
Game is easy to mode and you can change a bunch of stuff yourself, like turning male characters to females etc
Also big free update is comming soon along with a multiplayer
Considering it was made by one dude, it's pretty awesome.
Eventually it gets extremely redundant though. And the game caters to fucking pussies. At launch if your farm sucked your grandfather would be pretty condescending, so the dev decided to make him nicer and then also add a feature where you can get regraded whenever you feel like it.
So there's literally nothing at stake.

micro macro management is easier als the crop process is really linear in contrast to Harvest Moon games. The fact that you can harvest with mouse-over is pretty neat and timesaving. It takes away the depth of harvesting and introduce a pretty casual and comfortable farming scheme.
The moment you overfarm is the moment you lose every ounce of motivation to continue playing it, so grow crops in moderation.
It's Americanized Harvest Moon.
People like it because you can get gay married and because you can mod it. There's also promises of multiplayer, which many are interested in (since in the current HM games you can only do multiplayer to trade items). People also really love the developer, since it's just one guy

The only feature it has that SoS games don't is the ability to be straight up gay. Otherwise it's basically just a clone on PC.
Personally I like it a bit more than mainline SoS/HM games but not as much as RF.
