What weapon did you use in FU, senpai?
I know the usual advice is "Hit the monster, don't get hit" but I'm only now seeing it for real after branching out to SA. I've been playing guard GL for a year now on MH4U along with a bit of S&S for fun and my general playstyle had always been just blocking its attacks instead of actually dodging and learning its patterns. Shit like Tigrex are complete nightmares for me, I don't even know when it's safe for me to go in and hit it without my shield.

It is rather unfun to fight with GL due to the unpredictable hitboxes when it's charging all over the place, especially when in the corner or when it does its 360 spin when I'm right under it. Not just that, Molten and Brute Tigrex both have roars which pierce the GL shield for HP damage even with Guard+2, and Molten has a triple roar.

I find it that it's good to know more than a weapon style. Sometimes you come across "walls" like that, monsters you just can't get past. Analyze the situation and identify your mistakes. Get used to the monster's patterns and bring items that counter what they do to you. Try and figure what weapon style could benefit your strategy and make a good one.
I started with DB, learned to play IG because of Nerscylla. Have been playing Hammer, GS and lately Switch Axe in HR. You'll develop as a hunter as you go along, it's more of a mentality and muscle memory thing than stats, and that's why I like this game so much.

Depends on the weapon, Striker usually costs you a move or two for the extra Hunter Art slot. Like Lance goes back to the old third poke instead of the new multi-hit one, and they lose some other move you barely use.

I'm not an expert, but perhaps aerial or adept, since they just let you dodge and attack better. Striker arts lock you into one long combo that the monster is more than happy to punch you out of.

Aerial GS allows you to not be a dumb fuck sitting there charging your blade (since the aerial charge is super fast). It also deals a shitton of mount damage (for fast mounts) like Aerial pellet HBG.

>HBG Aerial with pellet siege can rip any monster a new anus in below 10 minutes (MUST use Blizzard Lagombi or a set with similar skills)
