Timing and aim with a LOT of luck will grant Good/Nice/Great throws, granting extra XP on a successful catch. The green circle means it'll be an easy catch. Harder to catch pokemon will have orange or red circles.

field test confirms a mix of location of location and level. Route 1 scum at low levels, shit like Arcanine and Rapidash showing up wild at higher levels.
Getting the toss in the ring is a subjective goal. "Nice" will give you a small xp bonus, Good and Great will grant higher rewards but it's harder to accomplish. Keep getting those nice shots anon, it's a worthy aim.
Selecting the silhouette will focus on that one alone in order to update the distance indicator in real-time rather than checking and re-checking. But will they add direction to that? No, the fucking assholes. We get to play hot/cold.

It's really fucking far from done. Trading, direct battle, and if the trailer is any indication, Legendary events. But Nintendo said let's GO so now we're essentially in the same places as the early days of Ingress. Bug reports will pour in, devs will scramble to fix an incomplete product on the fly.
