I dunno how I feel about the ending. It doesn't hit the levels of insane plothole bullshit as 999 or fucking VLR (God that game's whole final sequence was the worst) but I still feel kind of disappointed about the whole "open ending" thing.
Not to mention - bullshit as they were, 999 and VLR had pretty good explanations for why that specific collection of nine (give or take) people were there but here it just seems kind of arbitrary. Mira was just there to fuck shit up, okay, but what about Eric? Was he just there to be a beta bitch and wave a shotgun around? And what about Carlos? Just because he figured out he could SHIFT too?
His motives for the whole thing were shit too. And the religious fanatic thing was thrown in at the absolute very end. And the ending where they all survive and he just kind of says that he wanted them to be in the mindset that they could change the future.
God damn. I dunno. Just kind of disappointing from a franchise like this. I guess they've all been huge letdowns at the very end though.
Either way RIP Zero Escape. Flawed fucking gem of a franchise and this was a hell of a way to go out. I hope someday there's a remaster, without all of the fucking ridiculous TECHNOLOGY this could be a genuinely terrifying game and it already was pretty feelsy at a few points
