I haven't played in quite a while, but just by the nature of their toolkits Lazarus and Cabot will never really be useful. They're both a design case where there is no middle ground to be found in competitive play with their toolkits; either they are overpowered or useless. Back when Kraken has first become insanely OP due to shitty programming it wasn't that bad because a good Cabot could absolutely wreck a Kraken as the primary damage dealer while assault helped with its secondary. Both were too strong but only Cabot got nerfed.
Sunny is in the same boat but they've elected to keep her viable which means she's gamebreaking. As before: no middleground possible here with toolkit as it is
But the biggest problem is not any one balance issue, it's the way TRS goes about their balancing process. Using pub metrics to argue that characters are balanced is ridiculous. I don't care that Lazarus has a ~50% win rate in pubs, at a high level of play he's fucking useless

Well when I played it in the BIG ALPHA (and against the devs) it was pretty damn great. Minus the laggy servers, the game didn't have many bugs and monster play felt great.
Once released came though monster play got nerfed heavily. They put heavy cooldowns on sniffing(Your wallhacks) and jumping(Your travel/escape).
It slowed the pace of the game a lot, as well as releasing new hunters that further pushed the monsters to the breaking point.

Skills not landing properly or not even working.
Balance has always been terrible as well, especially for new characters that were released. They either made them OP, or worthless on release, such as Torvold:

I haven't played in months though. There have been months of patchnotes/changes and I haven't played since Tier4(?) Hunters got released. Game is dead and took too long to find games. It was also VERY STRESSFUL because ONE WRONG MOVE and you lost (as monster or hunter)
