Also Federation Force is pretty much taboo.
If a person wants to discuss about the good aspects that person is going to be called a shill and be ignored.

>implying spamming cuck and :^) over and over again is in any way above this

Despite what it may seem like, /v/ is for video game discussions, and in the case of Metroid, there's not much in the way of shitting on it outside of Other M and how amazingly stupid it was.

I'd much rather have a comfy as hell threat to relive the old memories of the general-infested /v/ that was somehow better than the shit-stain post ironica nonsense that we ended up steeping ourselves into to reach an all time embarrassing low.
>>

The joke is that the space pirates keep building their bases in ways that allow Samus to easily infiltrate, and that they do stupid shit with science that always gets them killed.

Sorry you have no sense of humor. I guess being an edgy teen kind of prevents you from enjoying things, huh?
>>
>>344096643
So because you're so easily triggered you can't handle people with different opinions and so need a safe space to spam comics older than you are. Understood, but if you're so sensitive then there are other sites such as reddit that you might like and would definitely fit in better.

Buddy, I have been here since long before these comics were a thing. These kinds of things used to be quite common around here. I know your version of /v/ is just "everything is shit, everyone is a cuck", but back in the day we used to actually come here to have a good time.

Just look at how triggered you are in >>344097060

This is what I'm worried about.
You know nintendo has a stick up their ass when it comes to suing their properties, especially when the quality of it shits on something they're doing.
Say for example, federation shit coming out two weeks later and NOBODY likes it.
Add that they haven't a 2d metroid game in over a decade and FF is coming out on a dying platform that was never popular to begin with, ther will probably be more people playing am2r.
Better believe miyamoto is gonna pop a blood vessel if that comes to pass.

I've actually grown bored with Metroid pretty much. The survival aspects are weak, the platforming is basic, the sense of discovery is mild, the enemies are dopey, and the most sophisticated aspects, like customization in how you actually play, and different ways to move through the mazes, are very rarely put to good use. I feel like so much of what I used to love about Metroid was actually pretty mindless (ME GET ITEM ME OPEN DOOR WITH THAT ITEM). It's honestly irritating and I think the only cure is a new Metroid that actually uses a very open-ended type of gameplay where the experience really varies depending upon how you collect, fight, and explore.

I can't believe it's been over 8 fucking years. I was waiting for AM2R when I was still in highschool.

Excited to finally play it through to the end. The last demo release was some of the most fun I've had with any 2D Metroidvania, the time and effort really paid off.

It releasing the same month as Federation Force is fucking hilarious though.

1. I hate the piece of shit but Metroid: Other M was considered a mainline game released in 2010. 2. Doesn't matter what you like only thing that matters for Nintendo is that their franchises don't bomb miserably, as it stands now Federation Force may sell worse than Code Name Steam. Prime is either getting put on hiatus or Nintendo is getting their shotgun and bringing Prime out back. Over the years they have been doing more promotion for the Metroid franchise over the Prime franchise, what makes you think they won't get rid of Prime in a heart beat so they could just have one Metroid series to focus on?
>>
>>344102923
prime dying is a good thing though.
>>
>>344103738

>>
>>344103675
>Over the years they have been doing more promotion for the Metroid franchise over the Prime franchise
How?
Smash had an obsession with Super Metroid for the longest time since it's so weird about the Metroid franchise but Nintendo's promo material for the series has always just used the most recent games and renders. For the past few years it's been Other M because it's the newest material they have on hand.

If anything it seems like the higher ups at Nintendo have more interest in doing another big budget 3D game than a 2D game, since they have lots of Platformers that sell better but nothing as far as the First Person Shooter genre is concerned.
>>
>>344103102

3 pisses me the fuck off. If you're gonna turn Metroid into basically Halo, you could at least give a good effort as far as designing encounters with enemy hordes. In Halo, you gotta think about where you hide, which weapon you use, and even about the physics of the landscape. In Prime 3, you go down lifeless hallways with a few pests to easily kill, up until the next rote puzzle. The bosses are actually good though.
>>
How about you casual pussies just play the original Metroid II?
>>
>>344104125
And after Fed Force bombs what makes you think they would go in for round 2? Tanabe came stated before that he didn't have the resources for another Prime game and just made some hypothesis the game would take three years to make for the NX IF he had a team and resources. While Sakamoto is now a Deputy Manager at EPD and has far more resources than he ever did to make a classic Metroid game.

And Sakamoto's department has been doing stuff like WarioWare, Rhythm Heaven and more importantly Tomodachi Life. Why would they have him go back and make another Metroid when the stuff he's currently doing is getting better reception and selling more?

Metroid's going to be throwaway spinoff territory for a while until Retro Studios is done with whatever their current series is and Miyamoto drags them back into Metroid. Nintendo hasn't had interest in 2D Metroid since they finally made handhelds capable of doing 3D, it's not going back.

The lack of a map means the lack of handholding. The game fully allows you to get lost, which is the point of the game. Unlike Zero Mission, Metroid disorients you and has a spooky atmosphere, Zero Mission looks like a cartoon in comparison. Metroid poses an actual challenge since it demands you learn how to play and learn how to survive.

1. Sakamoto team back when it was SPD where Sakamoto worked under Iwata, his team was small but now since SPD merged with EAD under Takahashi his team is large. Takahashi himself said they had plans for a traditional game you have to remember the Wii U failed. Nintendo is getting ready to replace both the Wii U and 3DS all of their future projects got moved to the NX. After such a long hiatus do you still think Nintendo is not working on a mainline Metroid game for the NX? Also who says the game is 2D pixelated game, could be a 2.5D game. 2. After doing three Prime games and a re-release don't you think Retro would work on something other than Prime all the time?

Zero Mission has no atmosphere. All of the colors are vibrant and nothing poses a threat. The cutscenes interrupt the flow of the game.

The presentation of the game is bad for a series built around isolated exploration. You don't feel like you're alone on a hostile planet, you feel like you're taking a jog through the park on a sunny day.

>More content does not necessarily mean better content. Zero Mission has worse content.
Metroid 1 has three piss easy boss battles and the smallest handful of items in the entire series.
Zero Missions new content is a much welcome addition. It actually has satisfying combat and controls now with a large array of bosses, for one.

>Fuck no.
You're a mad man.
Metroid 1 is one of the ugliest games on the NES. Zero Missions comic style isn't my favorite art direction in the series but it looks miles better than the original game ever did.

This isn't even a tech thing, I'd argue Kirby's Adventure has better presentation than Nightmare in Dreamland and those games are on the same respective systems. Metroid 1 is just an awful looking game.

>but Metroid should not be a series for casuals.
Who fucking cares?

>HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Metroid 1 is not a hard game by any stretch of the imagination, and the speedbooster puzzles are some of the toughest challenges in the entire classic Metroid series. Going for 100% in Metroid 1 is way simpler than going for 100% in Zero Mission.

I have no idea why people call Metroid 1 challenging and unforgiving. The map is small as hell and separated into 4 distinct, easy to navigate areas. You can get anywhere in the game by using the same 3 or so vertical rooms, and all the sub-areas branching off of them are straight corridors. It's almost impossible to get lost in it, and it's not like there's any worthwhile gunplay or bosses to add to the difficulty. I guess if you're using passwords a lot you'll do a lot of health grinding since you always start the game at 20 hp, but that's not difficulty. That's time consumption.

I'm not praising Zero Mission as particularly challenging. I'm calling out Metroid 1 on being one of the easiest games in the series.

>Metroid allows you to go anywhere
The only has two checkpoints and then the final boss. You can go anywhere because there's to places to go.
>>
>>344106536
Don't forget the they changed Samus top and bottom to the Zero Suit, changed what Mother Brain's lair looks like, gave Samus her kick climb and shinespark abilities when in canon Samus learned these moves from the animals in Super Metroid, and combined the high jump boots with the jump ball upgrade.
>>
>>344102354
As long as it doesn't get a big article on Kotaku or directly threaten a new project they won't do anything. They're really anal about youtube but they don't usually bother with anything else. There were some cases where a guy was issuing fake C&Ds under the name of a former Nintendo employee, it probably scared a lot of people into quitting, but it wasn't Nintendo.

Mario was mostly left alone until Super Mario Maker. Super Mario Crossover is the entire first game and lost levels and is still up.

The Zelda rom hackers are notoriously flaky and they tend to say they were C&D as an excuse, rather than actually getting a C&D. Zelda Classic is really old at this point, and it's still going.

Pokemon Showdown is still alive, that should say a lot about Pokemon.

I don't think they've ever bother the Super Metroid or Fire Emblem hacking communities.

They hate melee because it detracts from their newer games, and that's not even a fan game. Project M devs shit their pants when they realized they could get sued for a ton of money, if someone actually was threatening them it wasn't Nintendo. As far as I know no one has really been bothered other than the earliest brawl texture mods.

>Metroid 1 has three piss easy boss battles
Kraid in Metroid 1 poses more of a threat than any boss in Zero Mission. Mother Brain herself is an easy boss, but Zero Mission ruins the absolute sublime brilliance that was her boss battle in the original game.

>and the smallest handful of items in the entire series.
And each one aside from the high jump boots and Varia suit changes the context of how you play the game.

>Metroid 1 is one of the ugliest games on the NES.
I think Metroid's limited tileset is used to much greater effect than all of Zero Mission. There is a deliberate reason why Metroid looks the way it does.

>Who fucking cares?
I care, because Metroid was a game for the older kids and adults, not the younger kids. It was a game that you poured MONTHS into and demanded thoughtful, intelligent play. If you want to speedrun the game to get Samus in a bikini, you NEED to be able to survive.

>Metroid 1 is not a hard game by any stretch of the imagination
It puts up more of a fight than Zero Mission.

>and the speedbooster puzzles are some of the toughest challenges in the entire classic Metroid series.
The Speed Booster doesn't exist in the original Metroid.

Metroid allows you to go anywhere in the world with a very minimal set of tools. You don't need to exploit any bugs or know any fancy tricks to get there. A beginner player can go from Brinstar to Ridley through normal gameplay. A beginner player to Zero Mission cannot go from Brinstar to Chozodia through normal gameplay.

>Kraid in Metroid 1 poses more of a threat than any boss in Zero Mission
You kidding, right?
Morphing into a ball and spam him bombs until he dies, while you pray that your energy tanks doesn't get empty isn't what I call challenge.
If you want a real challenge you might try Metroid Zero Missio Hard 10% challenge.

>There is a deliberate reason why Metroid looks the way it does.
It's monotonous a la Legend of Zelda and it's easy to get lost, but it still impresses me how they could make such a vast world with just 512KB.

>If you want to speedrun the game to get Samus in a bikini, you NEED to be able to survive.
Nicest feeling ever.

>It puts up more of a fight than Zero Mission.
See above.

>Metroid allows you to go anywhere in the world with a very minimal set of tools.
But you cannot argue there are practical reasons that respawning is a pain. It's not nice to respawn in the butt of the world with 30 HP. And you're forced to farm.
And God have mercy on you if you run out of missiles. Foes in Ridley area take about 15 shots to be destroyed, and that's to drop you 2 missiles or 5 HP.
On the other hand, it's the most satisfactory feeling when you find an energy tank while exploring. In Metroid NES it's basically like finding an oasis in a desert.
>>
>>344108271
>Kraid in Metroid 1 poses more of a threat than any boss in Zero Mission
Kraid in Zero Mission is harder than Kraid in Metroid 1.

>And each one aside from the high jump boots and Varia suit changes the context of how you play the game.
Same is said for every Metroid game either, Zero Mission included.

>There is a deliberate reason why Metroid looks the way it does.
And it's not effective.
Metroid 2 was the game that really amped up Metroids sense of isolation and creature design, and where it laid the groundwork for later installments.

>I care, because Metroid was a game for the older kids and adults
The 2D Metroids have only continued to increase the skill ceiling of the game while also giving optional hints and more fluid control schemes to make them easy to pick up. It's simultaneously appeasing both audiences.
That's a good thing.

>The Speed Booster doesn't exist in the original Metroid.
That part was in reference to all the endgame shinespark shit in Zero Mission. Sorry for the poor wording, I was short on characters.

>Ah, I've spotted someone that's only ever played the game with a map in front of them.
I fucking drew my own map while playing a physical copy of the game. Cut the bullshit.

Didn't even need to use the damn thing either. Metroid 1's world design was fucking impressive at the time but its map is designed in blocks connected by shafts and funnels. It's easy to commit to memory, I never felt the need to ask for a mini map in it like I felt the need for in Metroid 2.

>A beginner player can go from Brinstar to Ridley through normal gameplay.
And they can still do this in Zero Mission. You don't need infinite bomb jumping either, even though it gives you the tools to get there in more advanced ways. It's crazy.

>A beginner player to Zero Mission cannot go from Brinstar to Chozodia through normal gameplay.

About missiles and hp, to be fair the japanese version has a save feature and saves your energy and missile count.
They took this out for the other regions for some fucking reason and is the main reason you have to farm hp and missiles.

They could have at least started you at full energy and missiles when you load with a code.
Starting at 30 energy and no missiles and having to farm them every time you use a code is beyond tedious.

>Kraid in Zero Mission is harder than Kraid in Metroid 1.
Not really. Zero Mission's Kraid is the same easy Kraid fight as Super Metroid's only you're shooting from the right side of the room instead of the left. Shoot his face, shoot his throat, repeat. Kraid in Metroid 1 was a lot harder to hit since he'd change his spikes depending on which side of him you were on and he threw more.

>Same is said for every Metroid game either, Zero Mission included.
Super Missiles and Power Bombs added nothing worthwhile to the series. They were just different keys to unlock different locks.

>And it's not effective.
It's very effective. The similar-looking rooms and simple graphics make for a disorienting, spooky world that the music only enhances. The game communicates that you are not welcome on Zebes.

>It's simultaneously appeasing both audiences.
It is not. It is lowering the skill floor. I want to be able to go places I may not be ready for. I want to be allowed to die from mistakes. Newer Metroids do not allow that.

>Metroid 1's world design was fucking impressive at the time
We agree that context matters.

>its map is designed in blocks connected by shafts and funnels.
That is every 2D Metroid game. The difference with Metroid 1 is that the lack of an in-game map and the way the world is designed means it's POSSIBLE to get lost. You cannot get lost in Super Metroid or Zero Mission because the games have a set path they lead you along unless you know enough about the games to avoid that path, at which point you still won't be able to get lost.

>And they can still do this in Zero Mission.
No they can't. A beginner player will need the Power Grip and other power-ups just to get to lower Norfair.

>I thought you didn't want it to appeal to casuals.
Providing a world that's just as open to beginners as it is to experts is not appealing to casuals. The beginner player gets lost, the expert does not. Both are given the freedom to create their own unique experience playing the game.

That pure feedom is what separates Metroid from the rest of the series.
