Alex Ross is a big example of that, Sonic doing it with the VASTLY SIMPLER COLORING STYLE AND ART STYLE should be easy by comparison. Hesse drew the cover himself and it looks great, he could have colored the rest of the book like that instead of being a lazy fuck and getting someone else to do it. It's a flanderization based on Eggman tricking him in S3/SA1. It started with Advance 2 and Sonic X, IIRC. It got worse since the Pontaff era, though.
