Spore at least had a lot of prerelease information and promises that made people hyped. It just completely failed to deliver most of it.

NMS has never promised us anything beyond "exploring." I get the feeling that Sony has latched onto this once small (I mean development-wise, not actual in-game size) production and shilled the fuck out of it, completely destroying its presentation.
>>
>>344073889
It actually does have customisation though, for the weapons that is. Look it up, every weapon has a 'rarity' type thing, higher the rarity the more open slots you have for customization. Can change the look and even how the projectiles work etc.
Wish it had ship customization, unique ships is badass if you actually find one you like but they did say DLC/Expansions if they do eventually decide to make them would be base don player feedback so maybe customization will be added eventually.
>>

>>

Seriously, fucking name some actual interesting and fun features in this game. You hop on your randomly generated spaceship and fly off to randomly generated map and look at some creatures, and then mine some resources and then having to escape the sentinels if you mine too much and then its off to another planet and rinse repeat.

Procedurally generated titties might be the only thing that could make me want to explore a world that, far as I can tell, is full of nothing but pretty window-dressing.

Like, is there a demo somewhere that shows some actual GAMEPLAY? Not just wandering around gawking at weirdly shaped ostriches?

I'd be cool with a game that is solely exploring except the game doesn't even look fun to explore. All the worlds I've seen look tame as shit. Where are the mountains, volcanoes, ravines, oceans, dense jungles, etc. All I've seen is rolling hills spotted with trees and some pools of water here and there.

Volcanoes and deep oceans have been mentioned by the devs but not shown, and there was a pretty dense looking bioluminescent jungle/forest in one trailer. Supposedly they're holding out on showing stuff like that because the whole point is discovering it for yourself, but I'm taking that with a grain of salt. Just as likely it isn't in a presentable state, cut, or never really planned in the first place. Personally, I'll be satisfied if it doesn't turn out to be Spore 2.0 and can at least delivers on what they've shown so far.

God knows its never going to stop getting shit from people who overhyped the hell out of it though. I still see people making elaborate fantasies about terraforming and leading fleets.

Fly around the galaxy, upgrading your ship and suit so they're more capable of making it towards the center of the universe. Things get more dangerous the closer you get to the center. Raid other ships, trade or mine shit for resources and whatnot

I guess there's some background lore and stuff that comes with ancient ruins you can find on planets

Spore's problem was SJWs. The design team ripped eachother apart. Hopefully this game might have some better direction. Likely it will be Spore 2.0
>>
>>344082457
It does have that. Stars will blink if there's a player (or maybe it was only for people on your friends list, I forgot), but you can't just warp around wherever you want like they do in the demos, there's grinding involved. If you noticed a blinking star 15 jumps away and they didn't notice yours, or didn't care to see you, they'd probably have jumped out or gone offline long before you arrive.
>>
>>344075014
Not to mention there's literally no multiplayer beyond "Look another player found this planet first and named it". Going around being space pirates with friends would make this game more interesting.

I just imagine there's going to be a million fags who think naming places "tatuine" is clever.

I'm fully expecting planets named "Kiritoxxx" or if the game allows it people putting their website links in like "faggot.twich.tv"

>procedurally generated open world survival sandbox game being sold on lots of buzzwords and extremely bold claims
>>
>>344084117
Of course the designs will start to get samey after awhile, but still, 100%ing the game by actually visiting all of the planets is physically impossible. The sun would die before you finished.
>>
>>344084441
I think there will be too many living planets. And planets with life will be flooded with randomly roaming wildlife of several different types. Just like in every video.
The "Woah, such unique, many variety" effect will wear off soooooooooooooooooo fast.
>>
Any word on if there will be ridiculous load times entering new places?
>>
Prove to me this "game" isn't just a glorified tech demo.

Please.
>>
>>344085709
It's meant to be seemless.
>>
>>344085836
It has some form of goal, so technically an end point.

On another note; why aren't devs releasing any literal tech demos anymore?
>>
>>344086009
Whats the end point supposed to be?
>>
>>344086009
Because any form of demo might keep people from preordering it.
>>
>>344085391
The figure I've seen floated around is that 90% will be lifeless, 10% will have life, and 90% of that will only be very simple life. The lush dinosaur planets they keep showing will supposedly be few and far between, its just the majority of demo footage because they want to excite people and showing a guy walk around a desert poking rocks wouldn't be very exciting.
>>
>>344086174
"Find the centre of the universe"
>>
>>344086009
Valve have been. They've just released their vr tech demos
Tech demos are only useful to make people buy hardware, and until vr there hasn't been a real push for it outside of consoles, and you don't really need tech demos to show them off
>>
>>344085391

I mean, the devs have outright said that most of the planets you go to won't actually have life, so when you find one with it it actually matters

http://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/no-mans-sky-gives-players-small-chance-discover-something-incredible/

>“Ninety percent of the planets that you visit should be barren, because that’s how it would be in our universe and anything else would feel fake. And then 10-percent of them should have some life, but that life 90-percent of the time should just be some grass and some shrubbery or whatever, you know, some insignificant life. But 10-percent of the time — 10-percent of the 10-percent — it should be real life. But maybe just birds, fish, and things like that, smaller creatures, 90-percent of the time. And 10-percent of the time it should be something a bit more interesting, like four-legged creatures. But that four-legged creature 90-percent of the time should be super boring.”

This is from last year though so it might not still apply
>>
>>344086682
>Tech demos are only useful to make people buy hardware
Also to show off new software developments, like cloth physics etc. But there haven't been huge leaps for a while anyway.
>>
>>344086754
So any planet with something interesting will be slight variations of things from Earth? No interesting or original alien stuff?
>>
Because the concept of preordering a game is fucking stupid.
>>
>>344071414
5 billions years worth of fucking nothing
>>
>>344087015
We don't know if they're throwing in crazy stuff

Supposedly both terrain and creatures will get weirder the closer you get to the center.
>>
>>344086754
Yeah, that wouldn't fly with investors.
>"So, you're telling me that players are going to intetionally find... 'nothing' and that's good?"
>"it's going to be so realistic, just like our universe..."
>"No, I don't like that idea. How about you go and fill that nothing with something, ok? Players want lots of something, not lots of nothing. Make every planet have monsters and cool bases, that way players get what they want."

>>344071414
>Go to red planet with tree and dinosaurs and scan stuff
>Go to supposedly different planet that has the same trees in dinosaurs in different locations
There can be infinite planets but there is a set amount of biomes that all look similar.
>>
>>344087516

That is correct from what I've heard too
>>
so I haven't been a part of many NMS threads but the worlds look great and seems cool with the amount of exploration. Do you think this game could have god tier mods? Stuff like building your own station, modifying ships, etc etc. If everyone keeps saying the amount of potential this game has why has no one talked about making mods for this unbelievable sandbox?
>>
>>344071414
I don't give a shit about how many planets there are. What I do give a shit about is what you can actually do on them, which at this point is just flying around and shooting shit and the occasional "Wow. That looks pretty great." discovery.
>>
I'm really fucking excited tbqh. /v/ hates everything I like though

Care to elaborate? What did SJWs have to do with Spore? I don't remember hearing anything about this before.

They've already shown fuckmassive sandworms and those floaty chinese dragon looking things, so he was probably just exaggerating the "muh realism" to hammer in that not every planet will be Jurassic Park.
>>
>>344087862
Mods won't work, because the game works off online play.
Although not multiplayer, they wouldn't want people scanning planets really fast with mods and naming them before actual players get to them.
>>
>>344087862
>unbelievable sandbox
Excellent buzzword my fellow anonymous image board poster. All it seems to do is make samey planets and the devs already admitted 90% of them will be barren.
>>
>>344087634
Trees, animals, etc have random mutations
They change the heights, shapes, colours, etc. They showed some of it off in some of their dev videos, and they do end up looking pretty different
Probably won't take long to start seeing the base patterns, though
>>
>>344088125
So do you always have to be connected online to play? Seems kind of lame if there is no multiplayer.

We have no idea how capable the game will be with moddability so nobody has even entertained the idea. Plus changing even one factor in world generation would cause a completely different universe to be created, so you'd have to use a new game for every time you change anything

So it's 3D Starbound?

There's multiplayer in the fact that you can planets named by other players and show them to your friends. But you'll never see another player character in the game.

They didn't have anything to do with Spore, that shit went down in their infancy. The closest thing was some creationists bitching about evolution but no one took that seriously.

Spore's problem was half the team deciding the evolution simulator concept was too complex to sell and that it needed to be a shallow children's toy, and harassing the other half until they caved and allowed the game to be butchered. Look up "spore cute team".

The outcomes for randomly generated things are bound by the software. Interviews give me the impression that their randomly generated planets/animals will all be very similar. >>
>>344089490

Not that man you're calling a faggot, but I'll give it a try

Goal: Get to the center of the universe, you start on a random planet at the edge

How it's done: Collecting resources and money by trading at trading posts, making discoveries on planets, committing piracy and mining shit on planets. Might be other stuff but I'm forgetting.

You need to upgrade your suit, ship and gun/mining tool so that they're all more capable, as the planets and general system get more dangerous, tough to get to and strange as you get closer to the center

There are planetary defender bots that do show up on planets when you start fucking with wildlife, but they aren't on every planet. NPC can also be hostile to you and you can make enemies of various factions in the game.

There's also other alien races which you need to learn their language to effectively interact with them, but I don't know much about that

People are going to be so butthurt when they realise that it's literally impossible to find another player character. They've been very fucking vague about how other players affect the universe.
As far as I can tell, they can only name other planets/plants/animals, and that's it.
>>
>>344089702
>>344090969
They've outright said that seeing another player is the only way to find out what your character model looks like, multiple times. Interaction may not go any further than sight, but it will have at least that much.

Or did they make any recent statements saying that aspect was cut?
>>
>>344091539
I've never heard them say that.
They always say "It's too big, you wouldn't realistically find anyone" they've never said there would be another other interaction other than "someone has already named this planet"

Keeping my expectations low in terms of gameplay depth, but I think i'll have fun getting comfy and exploran.

But then again, I'm that autist who had the most fun with minecraft running around exploring in SP, so I can see how a game like this wouldn't appeal to everyone.

From the gameinformer interview. He's definitely repeated it in video interviews as well. Its apparently some big 2deep4u reveal, so its unlikely they cut it unless they explicitly say as much.

The 2014 article explicitly states that other players will be visible and nothing in the 2016 article conflicts with it. Trying to beat it into people's heads that it won't be a coop Destiny-style affair and emphasizing the aspects that people are far more likely to see doesn't mean they removed the less-likely aspects.

Sure, its possible they changed it, but back it up with clear evidence. Right now "There is no MP" is just an assumption from vague statements that conflicts with other, very clear statements.

>>344096187
It doesn't make any sense to have a real time multiplayer component with the odd of running into someone else that they speak of.

They would need a huge server just to run the multilayer aspect. Thousands of players in a gigantic game world on one server who'll probably never see each other anyway?

Okay, keep telling yourself that.

There are nothing but vague statements because that's all the dev is giving, they are actively dodging the question.

>Rather than people actually playing together at the same time, No Man’s Sky‘s multiplayer elements will work in a similar way to those of Dark Souls or Terraria – both of which are examples that Murray uses for comparison. The first player to discover a planet will live their legacy behind on it (when others visit it, the message “Discovered by [insert player tag here] will pop up) and there will be other ways for players to make others aware of their presence.
