Just finished the first game last week and listening to some of the soundtrack over again makes me really appreciate it even more. Are there any soundtracks similar to it? I've never really heard anything like it so I wouldn't be surprised if there's not much.

Figure I'll post one of my favorite tracks. It's certainly the one that stuck in my mind the most for some reason.
>>344067409
When you say "finished", how finished are you talking?
Because if you didn't get every ending, you didn't finish it.
>>344069170
Yeah I got all the way to Ending E. I had considered grinding for all the weapon stories but decided against it. I might try and do it in anticipation for Automata eventually. I'll have to set up a way to do it while exercising so it's won't be as much of a waste of time.
>>344069549
>grinding weapon stories
Just download a 100% save or read them online, why would you grind for something that doesn't offer any in-game exclusive reward?
>>344069072
That one's great. My favorite is this one.

>>344069072
Chapter 1 in the sky has got to be my favorite. That, and Chapter 13 closing as well as Tsukiru. Exhaustion is a fitting word to describe Drakengard.
>>344069704
I still don't feel like I've "100%ed" Drakengard cause I've still got to upgrade those weapons.
Fuck, I grinded all the mantras in Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2 even after defeating the optional bosses for pretty much no reason. At least with this I'll get a little something to read for my effort.
Speaking of 100%ing it, isn't there a Free Expedition you unlock after beating Ending E? I forgot to do that too.
>>344070016
That's a good one too. So calming compared to most of the other music.
>>344070246
The OST version of Chapter 13's song makes me wish I was good enough to make it sound as perfect.
I still don't think the world is ready for Automata. Just thinking of all the cruel shit Taro could do with Platinum's combat direction is making me afraid.
I "finished" Drakengard last October. I managed to get to The Greatest Battle but that shit just kicked my ass no matter what I tried. Spent hours on it. Liked the game probably too much. Fuck that Verse where you need to stand in front of random paintings.

>Fuck, I grinded all the mantras in Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2 even after defeating the optional bosses for pretty much no reason.
I unironically diagnose you with some form of autism.
>Speaking of 100%ing it, isn't there a Free Expedition you unlock after beating Ending E? I forgot to do that too.
You already did it if you got all weapons anon, Free Expedition is not unlocked after beating Ending E, it's replaying older stages without plot for weapon unlocks.
>Drakengard thread
>Passing out
I will have to leave you, fellow murderhobos.
>>344072192
Good night.
Just completed Drakengard last night. I really enjoyed it in a strange way and ended up loving these murderers.
>>344071585
Yeah probably. Also:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nbrsv38HA9k
This is what I was thinking of.
What kind of gameplay segments would you guys like in Automata? The first nier turned into a text adventure, a top down shooter, even a pseudo-survival horror at points. Automata just staying a hack and slash all the way through would be kind of disappointing
>>344071103
>Just thinking of all the cruel shit Taro could do with Platinum's combat direction is making me afraid.
I think you misspelled "erect"
Holy shit, I am so stoked for a Taro-led Platinum game.
>a well-written story and well-crafted world
>none of their paranoid hand-holding
I'm not sure which is a bigger improvement. On the one hand, Plat rarely if ever manages to make a world/story that's engaging, on their BEST day they're self-aware-funny.
On the other hand, they focus very hard on making games that, while challenging, are only so at a certain optional and technical level (it's difficult to Pure Plat Bayonetta, but beating it is fairly simple if you're willing to accept Stone ranks). Hideki Kamiya would absolutely not allow something like the final boss of DoD3. He would consider it not fun and veto it.
Taro would laugh, set an entire boss fight on a series of catwalks that the player's capsule barely teeters on, and dare them to dodge attacks without misstepping slightly and falling to their death.
He'd design a boss that, once you kill it, goes into a 12-minute bullet hell survival sequence where all you can do is dodge until the song is over.
He'd design an entire floor of a dungeon carpeted with small bushes so that any attempt to dodge would lead to a stumble, then surround you with enemies.
The final level of Nier Automata will involve trying to control 2B and 9S simultaneously in the world's most obnoxious Dual-Cherry SM3DW challenge ever.
The final boss of Nier Automata will be a turn-based battle with FFVI graphics.
How could you not be excited.
>>344072591
That's not Free Expedition, that's just unlocking the Tokyo level in Free Expedition, as well as unlocking a Jet for all the flying missions in Free Expeditions.
But at that point you might as well play superior Ace Combat than the Jet here.
>>344072743
We already know it turns into side-scrolling platformer and top-down bullet hell, just like the first Nier.
We also know that it has some TPS elements; I'd love to see that. I'd love to see segments full of waist-high walls and narrow columns where your only viable means of attack is taking aim with your pod since the enemies are out of range of the lock-on mechanic.
I'd love to see a flight-sim dogfighting segment based on the F15 flight gear we've seen in trailers.
I'd like to see some collectathon 3D-platformer stuff
I'd like to see a surfing/snowboarding type segment based on the desert sand sliding mechanic.
I'd like to see boar drifting return (they keep teasing it) as a sort of driving game.
>>344072859
can't wait to have to s-rank every boss in the game to unlock ending D or something
>>344072743
At some point it will become a dating sim, then a turn based RPG, then a sports game.
>>344072946
I said A Free Expedition. I guess they're just stages within that mode but I always thought of them as Free Expeditions.
>>344073591
How about a no damage run?
>>344072859

No one else has the balls to make something that sounds like this for a commercial product

Give me another sound novel bit or I sink America
>>344073827
i've always loved the image in that video but could never find a decent wallpaper of it
>>344073591
I could see that.
I could also see him just foregoing it, and writing like, 9 or 10 endings.
Every time you beat the game, and go back to play it for better "combat ranks", the ending is just automatically slightly different, as are the fights.
So you go back in NG+ to try to master the game, but it changes every time you play it through; new encounters, new story elements, changes to dungeons or areas.
By the final playthrough it's basically "the other half" of the game and nothing is the same, and then when you NG+ it takes you back to the original ending again.
Just to fuck with people who grind missions over and over for Pure Plats in Platinum's games.
>>344072859
Kamiya has nothing to do with Automata.
He has nothing to do with all of Platinum's games in fact other than Bayonetta, W101 and upcoming Donte with Skyrim.
>>344072483
>I really enjoyed it in a strange way and ended up loving these murderers.
One of us etc.
>>344074204
That anon never implied he did
>>344074204
I'm obviously well-aware of that. But he's also one of the founding members of the studio and, along with Inaba (and to an extend, Kenji Saito) his philosophy of action game design permeates the way they do things, even if he's not involved with the project.
They have certain conceptions of how a game should be designed: difficult to master, but accessible. Difficulty is almost purely optional in all their games, and anyone who is bad at games but wants to experience the story is given ample tools to bullshit their way through.
Inaba has given GDC talks about this, actually. Crafting encounters so that the difficulty curve isn't always increasing so the player has time to feel good and relax; adding features or making certain encounters optional so that players who are overwhelmed don't get frustrated and quit.
Platinum's games all massage your shoulders and tell you you're doing great, but hey, here's how you could do better. Taro doesn't give a fuck, Because Is Final Boss.
There exists no game with an atmosphere more miserable and depressing than DoD1's
It is truly unique
>>344075032
Berserk PS2 game
>>344067409
NieR and Drakengard 3 both have fantastic soundtracks. I listen to them all the time.
>>344074827
I really hope the casual masses never change him
>>344075338
The reason he even still gets money is because Squeenix CEO loves his games.
What did he mean by this?
An older brother and his foul-mouthed friend set out to save his little sister from an antagonist who plans to make use of her body. Along the way he meets a magical flying book who helps him out.
>>344075684
The same thing he meant when he said "working with Platinum is amazing, it's like ordering dinner and getting extra sides for free; but I'm in charge of the story after all, so remember not to expect much of the game"
and "working with Platinum is a great experience; I take the train to Osaka, play on Twitter for 8 hours, and go home, and don't do any work".
He's just modest. It's his way.
>>344075684
Too many people cannot recognize his genius and he is likely depressed about it
Either that or the expectation people have put on him is weighing him down
>tfw you might have walked past Yoko Toro and you will never know
>>344077241
>>344077241
Do you walk around in Japan a lot?
>>344077324
>>344072743
I'd like to see an old turn-based RPG kind of thingincluding graphics, Taro seems like the madman that would do that
>>344077412
Seeing a pizza wasted like this makes me legitimately fucking upset. But what is the relation of it to my post?
>>344077324
He's adorable.
>>344072743
Sauce that quote?
I'd love to read the whole interview.
>cares for other people
>is by far the nicest person in caim's group
>goes to help nearly dead child soldiers
>bravely sacrifices himself for the group after giving some words of hope
why is he so perfect?
>>344077412
Goddamnit I also feel fucking upset.
>>344077603
>>344079886
I don't think it's even a real pizza. It doesn't bend at all with the waves; you can't just set bread in water and have it float like rigid plastic.
>>344080238
Might be frozen. Or maybe it's just old and hasn't been in the water long enough to soak.
Whatever the case, fuck wasting pizza.
>>344075684
hes probably trying to slow down the hype train because people are having too much expections or something
>>344074048
Closest I could get.
>>344078256
Did he ever diddle any kids in the Japanese version? If not then yeah, he's probably the cleanest in the group aside from Seere I guess.
>>344078256
But can he see why kids love Cinnamon Toast Crunch?
>>344077324
DELETE THIS
>>344080703
No, he only masturbated to his brothers. One time. And then they died and he survived because he was out having a wank.
>>344075032
I hope that's not the case cause I want to play some more games that are similar.
>>344075216
Nope.
>>344084610
There are plenty of them (I could try to list some) but none of them feel like Drakengard does. That stuff is on a whole other level
>>344067409
Zero did nothing wrong
>>344075684
