BY THE BUILDERS HAND!!
>>
>>344060006

Why do the guards fight in such flamboyant ways?
>>
>>344060605
They probably needed to make extremely exaggerated gestures for their primitive motion capture in order for them to be clearly understood by the player.

Does anyone know of any other stealing-oriented rummaging simulators? Failing that, what about some good fan campaigns? T2X was pretty legit except for the lead VA.

I thought I read something about Thief using shitty mocap but now I can't find anything about it. Must've been thinking about something else. Either way, the animations were probably that way to distinguish angry guards from curious ones.

Fuck.
>>
>>344064984
Thief needs no graphics, it has S O U N D
>>
>>344065098

It would be undeniably better to update Thief 1's mechanics, and also add things like full dynamic lighting, and a few of the things from T3 like more non lethal abilities like oil slicks as a non lethal trap item.

The lighting in Thief 3 made my dick hard

>dat Saint Edgars Cathedral level

Imagine Haunted Cathedral, The Sword, Cragscleft or Bonehoard with that kinda lighting.
>>
>>344064984
>muh remakes
Kill yourself there is nothing wrong with Thief.
>>
>>344060006
I did not think that rats would bare their teeth against the builders stone!
>>
>>344065649

I never said there is anything wrong with it homo.

I just want to play Thief with full dynamic lighting and really good textures.

And yes there is stuff wrong with T1. It's stealth is broken completely. T2 fixes it but the mood of 2 is completely different to 1. No spooky at all. Then 3 had good spooks and good stealth but a whole lot of other problems like small levels.

>>
>>344065945
The stealth in T1 is exactly the same as T2. It's just the level design in T1 is more dungeon crawler less thievery and T2 is more thievery in realistically designed levels. T3 just has too many problems.
>>
>>344067425

No, you cannot just blackjack everyone in T2 because helmets, robot enemies (forcing you to waste a water arrow) and you have more abilities like invisibility potions, that throwable camera to peak around places, and T3 even nerfs the flash bombs so that you can't blackjack a stunned guard anymore either. But also introduces oil slicks.

I remember T2 have more uses of Gas Arrows and Gas Mines too. T1's stealth is bare bones in comparison. I say this as someone who's favorite Thief game is 1 as well.

In T1 it is just way to fucking easy to blackjack literally every human guard it's unbelievable to just cheese levels like that. I don't want to have to limit myself to have fun.
>>
>>344065945
In a perfect world a Thief remake would be great but there's always going to be some asshole who thinks the levels should be simpler, or who misses the point of maps being incomplete, or who fails to put the necessary effort into sound design, or who would rewrite the dialogue to give it a gritty/realistic tone, or who would make the whole game monochrome, or who would make locked down animations for every action the player does under the misguided assumption it makes the game more immersive, and it would become apparent why game remakes should have stopped after Resident Evil's.
>>
>>344068029
There were hardly any guards with helmets in Thief 2, I think they only appear in like 2 levels (the police station and maybe Kidnap). T2 has robots you can't blackjack, but T1 has more haunts/ghosts/zombies/spiders you can't blackjack.
>>
>>344068263

I know, that's why I said I wished it to be on the same quality level as the originals. A man can dream right? I know it will never happen but that image of cragscleft made me desire a modern day good Thief game.
>>
Are thief games the ones with the best sound direction?

Can't think on another one that comes close.
>>
>>344060006
I unironically enjoy thief 1 and 2 melee combat. It's actually quite well made.
>>
>>344068608
The Silent Hill games have great sound design, but there are no games other than Thief that use sound as a game mechanic. That I know of at least.
>>
>>344068029
>>344068525
Is it me or are guards way more alert to even the slightest footstep noises in thief 1?
>>
>>344070228

They actually only get alert on marmol and steel, if I remember correctly.

If you stand on wood or carpet they won't and if you stand on rock or something like it then they'll go into "who's there mode". However since you are FUCKING GARRET MASTER THIEF, going into darkness and a good ol' hit to the neck should fix it.

Remember, you can walk and have moss arrows, use them.
>>

>>
>>344071512
Nah I was just joking. It's just a dumb exploit. I think the devs intended you to use the moss arrows to soften your footsteps when you really had to.
>>
>>344071512
There are three movement speeds. Running, walking, and creeping. In thief 2 you can bind creeping to a specific key instead of having to press shift while walking iirc.
>>
>>344065649
You can cheese your way out of danger if you know how the combat works.

One time I was being chased by 10+ zimbabos, instead of running away I fight them all by parrying and isolating them. They should implement something to punish the player for causing such a rukus, like a slow/instant death mechani c or spawning some extra enemies in a tight area.

it's a mix, but overall thief I and II look more like traditional german-austrian architecture. Then the industrial and port zones look like something straight from victorian era London, and then the modern parts in Thief II look Art Decó, like you say. I think buildings like the bank look more classical roman.
It's incredible what they accomplished with such a primitive engine.

>>344078071
I like to think it was intentional. As far as character goes, I think it does a lot for Karras. Maybe this is being being an autist and thinking about it too much but here's what I like about it (don't forget to like and subscribe)

Karras is building robots because he believes he is building the Builder's perfect children, beings that are flawless because they truly encompass the Builder's image. He invents recording devices so they can speak, but their voices must be recorded by a human. Karras records his voice, his weak, nasally voice burdened with a speech-impediment. This means these perfect, divine, flawless children of the Builder are forever encumbered with a human flaw. This, to me, reflects the grander theme that man is incapable of creating perfection, and the much more immediate idea that Karras, in his vanity, lacks the absolute self-righteousness he purports to.

It also makes the robots hella creepy and added a lot to the atmosphere of the game (Thief 2 spooks me more than Thief 1)
