Focus and shot type up are mandatory. after that just try to add any attack increasing abilities like ruthlessness.
evade +1 is looked down upon, but i really like it. it allows you to be a bit more reckless with positioning.

You only need focus if you plan on using a level 4. What IS required is the use of power coatings, so make sure your bow can fire it or have Power Coat+ gemmed in.
Prioritize Rapid up/Spread up/Pierce up for what shot you're using and go for a second skill such as AUXL, Challenger +2, Weakness Exploit, or Peak Performance. If you are using an elemental blow of any sort, Fire/Water/Ice/Thunder/Dragon attack +3 is highly recommended since bows are great elemental weapons. If your bow has access to blast(Brachydios, Kelbi, Teostra, Dalamadur, Molten Tigrex blast coatings), then make sure you have bombardier. Do not dismiss blast coating on the Molten Tigrex Bow.
Let's talk about utility. If dash juice is not readily availible, then consider using Stamina Recovery up or Marathon Runner. evasion skills of any kind are always helpful, but not required. Status up and Coating+ abilities are situational, but can be useful for stuff like poisoning Deviljho or a free sleep bomb. If your bow has a coating boost, use it. Even Exhaust coating is good for KO's if you know how to use it.
Awaken depends on the game. Many of 3u's best bows require awaken to balance out being fucking good. 4U only has Dalamadur, but it's one of the best bows in the game, and does fucking EVERYTHING. If you have a Normal up+6 OOO charm, go make Lagi X and you can have Normal up, Bombardier, Awaken, Focus(This bow has a natural lv 4 charge with rapid 5), Weakness Exploit, and Divine Blessing.

As someone who mained switch axe in 3u and half of 4u before dropping it, I can tell you that there was never any reason to use axe mode. There was never any reason not to use a power phial and spam X. It's what spawned Mizar's Asterism Miralis X that shits on every other blademaster weapon in that game. It hit a point where 3u's Mizar's Asterism made every switch axe in 3u, 4u, and Generations bad.
Mashing X over and over again(X A X A) in the later titles is fucking boring.

Yes, it's solo. And also it's because striker style's jousting charge pokes are fucking 70MV, but that only works with monsters whose weak points are the head, and their heads are fairly close to the ground. Deadeye Garuga for instance you can't really use Striker Lance for because his head is largely above the ground in general, plus just constantly charging Garuga in general is suicide, which is why it had to fall back on Adept.
