How dead is this game? Is it still possible to find party for the dungeons?
My experience is only on the megaservers but sure. There's a diehard core that will play this game indefinitely, simply because it's Final Fantasy, not because it's good. Just good luck finding queues for content during off peak.

I did return. Moved to Ultros server and I like it there. Active playerbase, good people (mostly), live raiding scene...
I play tank though so finding a dungeon is always instant. DPS queues range from nearly instant to 15 mins.

I play on diabolos which is a medium population server and I have no problem getting groups for ex primals, mount farms, savage etc. The dungeon finder is cross server so there's never a problem finding a group like max 15 mins for dps on expert roulette. The game has more than enough players

>Red Mage will be introduced as a Melee Magic based DPS, their weapon of choice will be a rapier. They will work similar to spellfencers meaning that they can imbue their weapon with different magic effects. They have a few utility abilities like a MP goad for party members and can also apply magic resistance down to enemies. Finally, they have a few ranged spells but they aren't as potent as Black Mage's spells.
>Beast Master is a new Melee Pet based Tank, they can summon different pets with different functions similar to how Summoners can summon different egis. They have a large pet that tanks for them, they have a smaller pet that does good single target DPS, and they have another pet that focuses primarily on decent AoE damage. >Dancer will be the new healing job. Their weapon of choice is Chakrams (which can also be glamoured to be invisible kind of like Emperor's New Fists). Dungeons are still as populated as ever, although your mileage will vary depending on the server and/or data center. After moving from Malboro to Siren to join a friend, I've noticed that que times have been much shorter. The server is also full of meme spouting faggots even in the dungeons, while Malboro was noticeably much quieter, but I just put up with it.
Crafting and gathering leveling is easier than ever, although endgame for these is a nightmare.
I've found the later dungeons and bosses in Heavensward to be the best so far.
Finally, Palace of the Dead is coming out in a couple of weeks. It's supposed to be a pretty big addition.

Leviathan is pretty active. During primetime hours patty finder has like 20+ groups up, duty finder takes less than 3 minutes to get into a dungeon unless you're a ranged DPS, Limsa and Idyllshire are so full that it lags my gaming PC, and it seems like over 100 people still take hunts out in the open world very seriously.

I don't know why everyone says that this is such a guarantee. The last parts of ARR hinted heavily at Ishgard being the next expansion. In Heavensward, Sharlayan is mentioned constantly towards the end. Hinterlands is all a ruined Sharlayan city and there are three dungeons based on Sharlayan architecture and technology. It's also a convenient place for the Astrologian story to continue towards, just like Ishgard was for Dragoons.
As for Ala Migho, it was mentioned here and there towards the end of ARR and a little in the middle of Heavensward. Aside from very slight brief mentions, like Gen. Rabhan reminding everyone that Ilbred exists, Ala Mhigo hasn't had any sort of a mention in the story at all.
At this point I'd argue that Doma is a more likely candidate, just because the developers nearly put Samurais in Heavensward and Ninjas will benefit from the setting as well.
I do believe that that Ala Mhigo will be a central focus in a future expansion but it doesn't seem likely that it'll be the next one. That being said, there's likely to be two more major patches coming up (3.4 and 3.5) and now that the Dragonsong storyline is over, the story can make a 180 turn and go in a totally different direction so anything can still happen. At the least, the next expansion is supposed to be announced in October.

For me, way to many people think Red Mage should be a DPS. But think of it this way. Healers are suppose to DPS as well right? So why not make Red Mages mostly a Support Job that an option to go DPS thanks to cleric stance and use their offensive abilities, this way as well they can use Doublecast as a quick double heal or DPS gain. When you aren't punching anything, charge up chakras. Then time your form shift so you're at coeurl form when you're about to punch again. Tornado Kick deals 330 raw potency not taking into account GL3 damage increase, twin snakes bonus, and other buffs. It's definitely not underpowered.

What else do you want besides raids? There's also expert dungeons, extreme difficulty, and savage difficulty fights. There's crafting and gathering which is bullshit but it's non-raid. There's Gold Saucer which is pointless but, again, non-raid. Plus, Palace of the Dead is coming in a couple of weeks and it's supposed to be a big deal, especially in terms of alternate content that also acts as an avenue for leveling. Of course, it could also be shit; just have to wait and see.

They're what allows you to put items for sale in the market board so I'd advise to pick one up. You can get two of them for free so there's no reason not to.
They also have a WoW garrison mission style game where you can choose a class for them and give them real gear. They'll go out and bring back some items a couple hours after you send them out.

You can store items with them in case you don't want to hold onto too much or sell anything. They're also the only way to sell on the market.
Furthermore you can send them off on ventures by giving them a class and hoping they bring back something nice.

I agree heavily with everything you said except for the combat. It was essentially stand still for five minutes straight and then coordinate everyone's abilities to skillchain the fuck out of a high level monster to level up. Messing up the skillchain probably meant a wipe on a single monster, depending on the situation.
The world was also a truly amazing sight to behold. When you're hiking through the Gustaberg or Konschtat, it really feels like the world is an incredibly massive place. More than anything, FF11 felt like a living, breathing world that could actually exist. Unfortunately, getting ANYWHERE meant walking for about an hour or two straight. Literally just jogging and avoiding super high level monsters just to reach the next party spot. And if you die? God forbid you didn't set up a closer return point, or if you wanted to be clever and die on purpose to save yourself the trip but you fucked up instead.
I want to love FF11 a lot because the amount of work that went into it was unbelievable but I just could not stick with it. I got it on launch on my PS2, tried it again years later on 360, and really gave it my best effort years later again on PC. I think I got up to about Lv.30 or Lv.35 Paladin before I had to give up.
Say what you will about comparing FF11 to FF14, at least FF14 doesn't make you wait constantly or send you to hellish distances. People who complain about the fetch quests in FF14 never had to make a pilgrimage to Jueno.

Fucking this. I'm constantly shocked by how well the game is written and how consistent the lore stays throughout the game. Every state / country has their own attitude and little phrases that they use, which helps add another thematic layer on top of the visuals. It's also hilarious how far they push the language without getting an M rating, saying "shite" and "arse" constantly, but my favorite has to be "Thall's balls" which shows up way more often than I expected it to in the story.
Like you said, the story likes to have fun and it's one of the main things that keeps me interested in the game. Matoya's dialog (towards the end of the game, in the expansion) is also really great.
What surprises me most is that between the class quests, side quests, main story, and even the FATES, as small as they are, among other things, they must have a ton of writers for this game. The fact that they can all stay so in line with each other is impressive.

What I've never understood with WoW is having to create a new character for every job you want to play. Aside from the annoyance of getting loot that's not for you, how about having to do main quests for every fucking job? Forget about the sidequests. At least with FF14, you're one and done as far as quests go, except for Beast Tribe quests but those are obviously just for leveling purposes.

Get your free two ASAP. They're a lifesaver for storage solutions and your main way making money. I'd also advise getting started on Ventures, where you gear them up and send them on quests, early on so they start leveling up sooner than later. Don't feel like you need to keep on top of it and collect a bunch of coins to pay them though; later in the game you'll get showered in Venture coins so you can send them out all the time without worrying about running out.
