He has always said stupid shit, but made good games anyhow.
His achilles heel is that he has no disconnect between what he wants to make and what he is actually making. He will, if he can, lie about the scale and majesty of any given project until the day it comes out.
Truth be told, if he just said to people straight out what to expect instead of what he wanted them to expect, he'd be one of the most universally respected directors.
