Half of the content in Afterbirth was withheld for a week because ed wanted everyone to play it at his pace. It was also buggy as shit. He tried to blame it on a "bug" despite the strings for the unreleased items not even being in the code of the game at the time.
And the DLC didn't even have much total content to begin with, the trinkets made it seem like there was much more than there actually was. Not to mention the actual new items were mostly shittier clones of already existing items (like seraphim, fart baby, ect)
And on top of that, the only new "area" and "chapter" that was advertised was a single prep room followed by a single boss room, which was just tedius because of the scaling health.
Afterbirth also had a lot of things that just punished you for no reason like spiked pedestals, leading to believe that he just wanted to spite the community.

Yeah, Afterbirth was a complete piece of shit.I remember buying it on launch, excited for the new content, and getting massively disappointed. Besides his fucking attitudes towards the bugs and the crashes, not to mention his lies about everything being in the game, just made it all an experience that completely ruined the fun of Isaac for me. Also, some of the changes to the game make absolutely no sense, nerfing items that were fun in order to make the game harder. Who the fuck cares about balance in a fucking single player game? Not to mention that he made the new character extremely boring to play with, being the only incentive to do so unlocking some more achievements. Jesus fuck, Edmund, I'm still mad with all the bullshit you pulled, I didn't even know it was possible to ruin a game so much with a single piece of DLC.

There are two rune shapes. A left pointing rune and a right pointing rune.
Lets say you go into a room and it drops a right facing rune. If you don't have any right facing runes unlocked, it'll drop an item instead, if you have pertho unlocked, it'll drop pertho. If you have pertho ansuz berkano algiz AND blank rune, it can be any of those.
By adding the blank rune it dilutes the right pointing rune to make pertho even rarer.
I guess you could say adding it to the left pointing slot would have made jera rarer which would have been bad too, but the point remains, its a DLC rune that is entirely negative no matter which slot it takes up because its just not as good as jera/pertho or even resistance.

This even pisses me off and I exclusively play the game in co-op. The new babies are either reskins that do nothing or game-breakingly overpowered (beat all the Rebirth bosses as Lost to unlock a baby that is 100% invulnerable, combine with any contact damage to insta-win the game).
Can't imagine how bad it must be for people who only play the game solo. You overcome some ball-bustingly hard challenge and your reward is a reminder that you're a loser with no friends and should be playing in co-op.

All of that is symbolic. When Isaac dies in the chest he defecates, as people usually do when they die. In the final ending of the game you see a cave with the keeper with a noose around his neck surrounded by feces. The cave represents the chest and the noose/keeper represent Isaac's greed/suicide.
