Is this the best game of the year? I don't see any competition for it, its so far ahead of everything else.
Only Dark Souls III comes close, and I don't think its as good.
>>
It's really good, but I rate both DS3 and DooM above it, so far.

It will be if it can beat Odin Sphere remaster

Dark Souls 3 got kinda boring, can't bring myself to even finish it
>>
>>344000001
It's a pretty nice movie.
>>
>>344001971
i havn't even replayed it since they destroyed poise i was gonna do a ng+ for the combined greatsword
>>
I can't fucking play it.

I've got to work and don't have that much free time anymore, and everytime I put it in it's all walking and talking.

Why did it have to pretend it was The Last of Us all of the sudden? Why do I get to actually play the game once every 30 minutes or so?
>>
>>344000001
Nothing will beat it at all. Nothing comes close in my mind. Everything is tight, precise, and leveled. The story has depth and pathos with clear motivations and contextual grounded nature with rules, systems, and more so consequences. The gameplay from the combat with how snappy, weighty, and dynamic it is to the level design with how sprawling and complex it is to the thematically connected choices, it's just an excruciatingly detailed, multi-layered next gen title and a breakthrough in interactive storytelling. Everything about it clicks and resonates. I love it, and we'll be talking about it years from now after seeing its influence on the action genre down the line.
>>
This game is looking just as good for future GOTY. Looks like a movie

Yeah DaS3 was kinda disappointing, but I haven't played DOOM, so UC4 takes the cake so far. FE: Fates is okay.

2016 has been pure shit, I just hope Dishonored and DX:MD is good.

What walking and talking?

Are you looking for the treasures and taking your time? You're supposed to relish in it and explore its systems. You're probably playing it like previous games and rushing through. This time, they've changed the formula. It's more Uncharted than ever before and it's an intelligent sequel because it adds depth to and subverts previous entries. It even subverts many expectations set by the marketing, and it's really groundbreaking. Really, name another widely marketed marquee triple a title that challenges genre conventions and brings context and depth for the killing? One that gives you the tools to bypass the killing and gives ample design to both strategies of either leaving enemies alone or mowing them down yet still having systemically reasonable connection with the plot for both paths?
>>
>>344001971
DaS3 was nofunallowed to the max. No poise, couldn't mix and match melee/magic without severely gimping yourself. Fast weapons were superior for PVE.

It felt like From tried to cater to all the PvP fags balancing complaints from years past and gimped PvE, then still somehow made PvP shit with all the ganksquad bullshit and uninteresting covenants.

You Sony fanboys are pathetic.
Shitposting an exclusive Sony title without even knowing anything avout it.

My money is on Final Fantasy XV. Of NieR came out like originally planned then I'd go with that.

It's my goty for sure. I really fucking love it and am amazed at how Naughty Dog answered the criticisms of the other games calling them "murder simulators" and the whole "ludonarrative dissonance" bullshit (which doesn't make sense because they used tranquilizers in 2 on the security guards.

But they completely overhauled how combat encounters are done in 4. Like every fucking scene is contextual with a world reason for why bad guys are in certain locations. A majoity of the time will have Nate and crew trigger a plot thread, and then bad guys will appear as a result. And combat encounters will usually begin without immediate gunfire and give you the option to completely bypass them if you feel so. And the thing that's cool is with how complex the level design is with the tools they give you, it makes the "stealth" segments really varied, tense, and interesting. Then when you're being shot at first, the forced killing is excused because it is for defense and the strong motivation of saving Sam gives reason to the killing. But the insane thing is Naughty Dog didn't even have to fucking do this, but they did because they wanted to push further and test their strengths. The prior Uncharted's never had a problem with the killing to me compared to any other game because there were no moral questions being asked, it was pulpy action, and Nate was never established as a "good guy". He was just a likable charismatic guy that we wanted to see him through what with all his antics, jokes, interplay with other characters, and strong backstory.

>>344000001
DS3, Rabi-Ribi, FE Fates, Doom and Odin Sphere were released so no
>>
>>344003418
That game is a remaster though. GOTY belongs to something that is NEXT gen. Next level stuff that couldn't be accomplished at all before whatsoever and pushed the medium forward. Uncharted does that EXACTLY and more so than any other game this gen thus far. It's a mixture of technical and design wizardry. Naughty Dog are so far ahead of the pack it's no joke.
>>
>>344003674
What makes any of those games groundbreaking and worthy of goty? In what way did they push the medium forward. In what way are any of them original?

Uncharted 4 pushed story integration into games further than anything before, and I don't understand how the fuck they keep doing it.

>>
>>344003937
they were the games that gave me the most enjoyment this year, i could give less of a shit about anything else.
UC4 just fucking bored me
>>

Posting reaction images isn't a counter-argument.
>>
>>344003945
a more refined version of the previous games, you have a grappling hook this time.

It's a decent game, better than the other Uncharteds, but it drags on too long.
>>
>>344002757
I just wanted to kill stuff and have fun.

Now the games tries to go all deep into me with themes and plot when that was never the strong part of uncharted games (which were generic stories with nice characters and good dialogue).

I just want to play the damn game.
>>
>>344003945
Best melee system in any game, best dynamic assist a.i., best level design in any fucking game ever, best gunplay, best tutorial design, best progression, best combination of mechanics, best exploration, best fucking everything. It's an incredible fucking game.
>>
>>344003761
>Next level stuff that couldn't be accomplished at all before whatsoever and pushed the medium forward.
Boring moviegames have been a thing since the PS1.
>>
>>344000001
If U4 and the series is so story heavy with epic choices, how come witcher and bioware games beat it without even trying?
>>
>>344004184
So having more depth is bad, okay.

The shooting is sparing because of plot reasons and it is punctuated when it does pop up, JUST like in a good action story with concentration on deeper but easily digestible exploration of philophical and moral questions amidst briskly moving attentive storytelling. When the action arrives too, it's the best in any shooter I've seen or experienced and it MEANS something, the exploration MEANS something, the whole journey is more substantive with every design decision they've made.

suffering, waiting 2 days for this

mouse + keyboard vs controller? I'm guessing you will have more of an advantage in combat using m+kb due to more keybinds?

It's not an open world rpg. You can't alter the story, but you have you choices on how to digest the story, and the way these choices are implemented are sly as fuck and have touched me more than any game I've played prior. I truly feel it's groundbreaking. LIke for instance, I ALWAYS bring up this scenario. The moment when you first enter Libertalia, you're exploring the town, finding the notes, piecing together this larger past story of Captain Avery and his cohorts, and I pull up to this chair while I'm talking to Sam, and I'm able to ask him questions of how our lives could have ended up differently at MY own accord, MY own pace while watching this picturesque yet tumultuos and desolate view of this torched and ravaged city, the way the moment tied in thematically with this parrallel story of Avery and obsession of bounty and adventure yet trying to maintain peace and stability in life, the counterbalance. It was so fucking beautiful, it fucking TOUCHED me. After I was done asking the questions, I had take a moment and just fucking bask in it. I said to myself, "THIS is next GEN."
>>
>>344004946
hl 1 did set pieces in 1998 kiddo

>>344004946
and I can control the barrier in Pong at MY OWN pace at MY own accord.

woah, so immersive. truly next gen right there.

yeah its called video games. Some games force you to act fast others wait for you forever. Its nothing new, grow up.

Amazing. Almost as amazing as Uncharted 4.

FFXV will be goty. UC4 is already forgotten
>>
>>344007045
Really? Because I was playing it earlier today.
>>
Any game that doesn't provide good or interesting game play is bound to be forgotten in a decade. Uncharted 4 is great action movie-game that provides imaginative set pieces, good writing and great voice acting, but lacks severely in the core of its gameplay. It's comparable to a good action movie(ie. Casino Royale) that is competently made and well executed, but will not be remembered as one of the greats. Critics overrate it of course, but it's by no means bad.
>>
>>344009325
Indiana Jones is remembered and still talked about.

Uncharted will be remembered and talked about. The gameplay IS good in Uncharted. Why else would the multiplayer be so populated? The melee system, the way the guns handle, have power, the design of the levels and the emphasis of combinations of mechanics, the way the game subtly teaches you and the great progression arc that follows. It's all top notch design and you're only ignorant for not acknowledging it.
>>
>>344010701
Because the game was praised for its single player and everyone and their mom has it?
Problem is staying power, everyone tries the multi since its "free" with the 10/10 goty singleplayer.
Same with bioshock 2 on release, the multi is fun as fuck imo and there were players in all play list on launch, then it died so fucking hard that regular tdm's are ded
>>
>>344007391
i forgot all about it until now when i saw this thread
