Had a great design, had more personality than most of the other bosses in the game (though I never was a fan of her theme), and her boss fight was one of the better ones other than the bits where she tries to snipe you (fuck that shit), but she barely had any lines.

Only thing that really holds up are the stage designs. The one thing I can say about NMH2 is that they put way more effort there. In the first game, after Holly Summers iirc, the stages take a major hit, and you basically don't get a real stage again until the final level. They clearly ran out of budget. NMH2 did have more actual levels before their boss fights, but to be fair, a lot of those levels kinda sucked and dragged on WAY too damn long. Even for something like NMH, where it's kind of a throwback to old school video games, it got kind of ridiculous, like in the parking lot before Margaret or the final level.

Actually it had less. First game had a bunch of shit to collect, including clothes and trading cards, a bunch of Assassin Missions to unlock and beat, and more shit for your beam katana iirc. NMH2 overall had less content.

The diegetic world doesn't even matter too much when we're asking ourselves if works are connected. It's not the same universe in which their story takes place, but the games share themes (as they do with Flower, Sun and Rain and Killer is Dead) and stylistic elements which makes it easy to put them together categorically. Whether Suda intended a thematic connection or he's just living out shit he thinks is cool (akin to Picasso being insanely into anything blue dabadee dabada for a while), we might never know.

2 is better in some elements. Much better gameplay, got rid of the somewhat crappy overworld, those mini games, has some interesting story elements, and a couple amazing bosses.
It's problem is the fist game maintains a fantastic, consistent sense of charm the entire game. While 2 is a rollercoaster of amazing, good, and meh.
First game is better. But second is still killer.
