It's basically a giant naval sandbox game with a Warhammer theme to it. It takes all of the things that made games like Pirates! and Black Flag great, but what really makes it great is the Warhammer theme makes it great, there's are towering sharks and sea monsters that can tear your ships apart, chaos and Ork fleets invade en masse at random times, and there's already tons of different ship types. Ork's for example have one ship that's literally just a giant drill.
The battles are fucking great. Everything's in realtime and you can board ships or snipe enemies from afar with rifles. You can even switch off between the different crew you've hired and equip them with unique weapons
I also love the fucking events. I took a mission to escort some people from a town that was affected by the plaque. While I was sailing around all of a sudden a bunch of undead/infected invaded my ship and attacked my crew.
Of course all the other Warhammer factions like Kislev and what not are in the game with more to come in updates.

Sounds like the only thing it's missing are shanties. How big is the world?
OP here
speaking of Pirates!, I bought Bounty Train during the Steam sale.
It plays like Pirates! and FTL had a baby. It takes place around America during the Civil War. You set your own objectives, take quests, and inevitably do a lot of traveling. During travel you have to manage your train much like you manage your crew in FTL. You can manage the train and use the whistle to scare away animals and cattle and fend off raids, robberies and ambushes from the games various factions (I'm guessing you can side with the Union or the Confederacy)
Not regretting my purchase so far. Only thing that sucks is the ios style to it

I honestly haven't played it since around launch time, but I was incredibly surpised how big it was at launch. With the 2.0 update, they supposesdly made it even bigger and added more factions/ports, so I'd say it's very big, especially if you keep in mind it's EA.
Pic is 1/3 of what's in the game atm (I beileve).
Don't know why there isn't one full sized image
