I have an 80 percent win rate on Lucio/Mercy and I still have a terrible time ranking up, despite getting gold for healing, but that's because the system considers NUMBER of metals to be more important than getting metals in what your class is supposed to do. I'll heal our team for 50 percent of the damage they took and still get literally zero exp. In the top 100 players there are TWO supports, shits fucked and I had to work my ass off to go from 64 to 69, then lost two matches and was back down to 64, EIGHTY PERCENT WIN RATE mind you.

Except that I do get fuckiing Objective kills and Objective time. Last game I played, I was Reinhardt and had 6 minutes of objective time and 36 objective kills (getting a gold medal in each). We lost the tie breaker (King's Row, defending). Lose a whole rank's worth.
Hence, I am absolutely certain that it is not using objective time or objective kills.

Hell, it doesn't even have to be that. He might have sudden problems with his internet connection, like I did yesterday. Lost 2 ranks because my provider got unusal disconnects, and my punishment was losing 2 ranks for it.
Maybe I'm asking for too much, but I think this sucks as well. They should punish me for leaving the game, but not for losing my connection to the game server. It was a shitty situation for me AND my team. My team shouldn't suffer because I left, and I shouldn't suffer because of a DC I have no control about.
The first issue is definitely more pressuring though.

Dude, Overwatch is a well made game, you can tell the team looked at every little detail. You might not have friends to enjoy a competitive game with, but don't project that onto the rest of us. Competitive shooters are a platform, players create the content. Overwatch isn't repetitive for me at all, my team is always trying new things, and so are the teams we're getting ranked with.

the amount of time and effort you had to put into the game just to maintain your high rank was so stupidly overwhelming that most people just didn't try. only one person per faction on every server could attain the highest rank, and it was only calculated through honorable kills, so you had to grind out honor kills in BGs for 12+ hours a day if you wanted even a chance at keeping your rank when they were recalculated every tuesday.
i think the comparison he's trying to make is that losing your rank is far easier than gaining it, and until this shit gets fixed, many players aren't even gonna bother with it.

The honor system in vanilla was one of the most insane competitive things I've ever seen in a video game.
The system was based on "honor points", which you got for killing enemies, and winning PvP scenarios, like CTF, but it was scaled based on how many honor points people on a sever in an individual week, so to raise your rank, you would have people playing 8+ hours a day, with sometimes multiple people on one account.
You couldn't stop, either. If you stopped PvPing, your rank would go down, so it was a continuous slog until you reached number one in the sever.
On smaller severs, it wasn't uncommon for people to try and outright cheat the system, where premade groups would contact each other over vent, and trade wins to try and rank up faster.

The ranks in overwatch are pretty misleading. You would think someone above lvl 55 would be in the top 50 percentile, they're actually in the top 25 percentile. In order to maintain that high rank you need to win more than you lose, not just be even.

It's not about being balanced, games like dota 2,league,typical blizzard games is about a non-static game environment with monthly patches that give a fresh game every month.

The ranks aren't handed out evenly, there's more 60% players than there are 70% players, far more. It's like this is CSGO as well, only the absolute best teams get up to the higher ranks, and part of that is being a consistent winner. The more you play, the higher your rank bias will be. Nobody placed all the way at the top of the ranks because your rank takes your time played in ranked into account as well, and your consistency.
