metroid is a really great game, but some people don't like it because you have to actually get gud, and is designed more like an actual cave exploration filled with things that hate you, rather than a slightly nonlinear vidya game like ZM
otherwise enjoy super and see whether you liked the exploration as much as you think you do
ps I'm pretty sure famicom metroid is harder, but it does have better sound
