I'd actually prefer if there were recommendations of games with a similar dated/early 3D interface.

Goddamn nigga, I was just playing SS which I bought from summer sale. Playing it for the first time and it's pretty awesome. Nice mix of action and point'n'click.

Check out Realms of the Haunting, it's very much like System Shock, except with 90s goth aesthetic. It also has sweet sweet cheesy FMV that makes it feel like some canceled 90s TV show.

That would be great, maybe that will allow .ogg playback of the music and someone can just record the music with the hardware they were meant to be played with as .ogg tracks and everyone else will be able to use that.

I heard it was better, but SS1's controllers were a huge turn off for me. UI was to over complicated as well, and half of the spoop factor came from you not knowing wether or not you'd be killed by not being able to fight back properly with the cancerous controls.

I think Nightdive Studios is pretty based for bringing us some classics that would had been long lost without their help. They also published System Shock 2 after it was patched to work on anything newer than Windows 98, before that it was unplayable. SS2 is better, but SS1 is pretty great too. There are some new releases of it now making it more widely available so people that never tried it get the chance to do so. There is also a kickstarter for a remake-reimagining of it that hopefully won't turn out like THI4F.

It only recently became available on Steam. For a while, Steam (as well as GOG and other digital retailers) only had the sequel, and the first game could only be bought on a used disc. So it was practically abandonware until Nightdive Studios acquired the rights.

As long as they don't pull any randomly generated shit and hand make all their dungeons I think it'll be fine.

The mac version doesn't actually use those versions of the soundtrack, it uses a midi-like way to play music on the fly just like the dos version. The only difference between mac and dos would be some higher res sprites and different controls because of no right click on mac. I don't know how the guy who uploaded those "mac" versions of the soundtrack on youtube managed to believe they are from the mac version, but they're from here http://kofler.dot.at/sshock/ and as you can see they're not referred to as mac versions but as Tribe remixes. Tribe was the band that Greg LoPiccolo and Terri Brosius were a part of, and they appear to have done several remixes of the original dos soundtrack though only the intro remix ever made it officially into the game by replacing the midi intro in the late 1994 CD release of System Shock.

How is this guy cycling through items and stuff with key shortcuts? I can't see any keys for it in the manual, there's Q for weapons but what about medpacks and other consumables

Doesn't this have the remix music in the background in that case, did he just swap the files or something >>343970325

Get a MIDI softsynth like BASSMIDI or CoolSoft so it can use a soundfont, I recommend SGM or WeedsGM3 or Choruim to use with it

Here's one track on WeedsGM

No, that's not remixed music it's still midi, but appears to be using a different soundfont. The remixed Medical music is this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17FAFpmNIWA

>I'd actually prefer if there were recommendations of games with a similar dated/early 3D interface.

Literally any early 3D game for PC pre-1995.

It's crazy, I can't play SS2, because I'm too scared but SS1 is quite fun.
>>
>>343967038
I mean SS2 had blazing techno going for half the game too

It would be cool if in the remake, the game over is delayed by an hour since that's about how long it would take the laser to hit earth traveling at the speed of light from saturn.

SS2 is alien, SS1 is Die Hard (in space)

Yeah I couldn't stand UU too after playing SS1.

I hate the survival elements and how the magic works. Controls are also somehow worse despite me liking the SS1 default control scheme.

Is it even possible to remove the guy from that place without making him cry with pain?

god damnit now i wish the DS/3DS had a first person dungeon crawler

they could've had a button to swap the screens to let you interact with the environment using the stylus

ultima underworld
arx fatalis kind of like a modern (2002) version of underworld get libertatis source port and leave vsync ON or the gesture casating will fuck up
there aren't many of the same caliber as those games though

It certainly has horror elements but it's like Doom where the main focus isn't to actually scare the player it's just a part of the world

That picture is kind of overstating it. I mean, the bottom left is all the same picture. There's no doubt one has more effort than the other, but no point in embellishing the point with fluff.
