I've always liked Dark Souls 2, I preferred the world in it over Dark Souls 3's world (even if DS3's was prettier) if only because most of the things in DS3's world felt like we had seen them before. I also thought the fanservice was awful in DS3 and while it was bad in DS2 it really came off as distracting and grating to me in DS3 like going back to Anor Londo because we as the audience recognised it where DS2 tried to do its own thing a lot more, which some people disliked but I kind of prefer it when a sequel tries new things, even if they don't work out.
I do think the bosses in DS2 were the worst in the series, there are some great ones but most of them just felt too easy and/or forgettable, it really felt like a quality over quantity and if they were the quality of the bosses in DS3 (which I think had the best bosses) I'd consider DS2 to be one of my favourite games of all time.
