Is it worth playing Baldur's gate 1?
I've played a little bit of Baldur's gate 2 and i'm not that impressed actually, but since i'm bored i might try it out again.
>>
1 is interesting since it gives you some backstory to the main character and basically makes Sarevok that much more interesting once you get to the throne of baal expansion

It's also not that long, took me roughly 8-9 hours and I was a complete novice regarding cRPGs at that point
>>

Tell us why you got bored. It might give us an idea of what we'd recommend to you instead.
>>
>>343926997
Well to be honest i don't really like controlling lots of characters(is it possible to set them to autocast or smth?)
And what really bugged me is that science is mixed into the game which just doesn't make sense to me, really puts me off.
>>
>>343927197
>science

Did you play the wrong game?

Baldur's gate is the most stereotypical high fantasy garbage you can imagine

Also you should at the very least control your mages seperately since they'll be fucking useless otherwise
>>
>>343927528
The tutorial area is full of pods containing stuff, that's science.

Is it possible to complete the game with just your character?

it took me 50 hours and I didn't even do most of the DLCs
>>
>>343927886
Yes, if you pick the right class.
>>
>>343927994
He probably didn't explore or do many sidequests.
>>
>>343928112
sooo warrior is a no go? i assume it has to be one of the mages.
>>
>>343928112
Bullshit. I've done solo runs on every class in Baldur's Gate 2 on maximum difficulty. There's nothing that can't cheese it's way through that game.
>>
If you didn't like BG2, you'll probably hate BG1. And most other CRPGs really.
>>
>>343928285
The most broken build is a dual class Mage into Warrior Kensai, google the build.
>>
>>343928440
If this guy can't be bothered to control a party, he's probably not the kind to do master cheeses on maximun difficulty.
>>
>>343928516
This. 2 is more or less the apex of its genre and objectively miles better than 1, so if it doesn't feel good then probably nothing will.
>>
>>343928754
That's... a fair enough point.
>>
>>343928754
i don't like cheese either, i like plain simple playthroughs.
The problem is that when there's many characters i feel under pressure to get them everything they need, see if the items they have are the best they can have and it just takes a load of time.
On my first baldur's gate 2 playthrough i got into the city after like 2 hours and with each character's inventories full, equipped everything i could for everyone, explored the whole tutorial area, checked every box.
>>
>>343929198
and quit after i met with the dude who offered help for money.
>>
Come on guys help me out, advice me on my games.
>>
>>343930075
You were given advice. Baldur's Gate 1 is less player friendly than Baldur's Gate 2.
>>
>>343930075
You want to play an cRPG with no party managemet? Good luck anon
>>
>>343930385
hahaha
thanks...
>>
>>343930075
Arcanum is more accessible for those who are new to the genre, has better setting and roleplaying possibilities and doesn't have you control a party. Try that.
>>
>>343930646
Second this. Arcanum is great and personally my all time favorite cRPG. The setting is really great and there's just a lot of little things to appreciate. Plus, that dog wrecks fucking shit
>>
>>343930075
Neverwinter nights is just controlling your player character. Neverwinter nights 2 is a party of 4.
Maybe you can build yourself up like that to get used to party management.

Have you ever played with yer dinger, son?
>>

>>343930880
Don't do Arcanum. It's very much a cRPG for cRPG fans and not for newbies. The amount of jank and stupidity in some parts of the story was a serious turnoff for me my first time. There are serious bugs as well.

If you want something to ease you into the genre, Icewind Dale gives you a quasi-sandbox to create and experiment with party composition and gives you a backdrop to learn the Infinity Engine. If you don't want to start micromanaging characters, give NWN a shot. It's a different system and engine, but you can at least get used to RTwP combat without too much stress.
>>
>>343930075
Try Dragon Age Origins. It's like 3D Baldur's Gate but without the D&D ruleset. It's more accessible and might convince you to try Baldur's Gate again if you get into it.

>>343930880
>>343930646
i don't really like the looks of arccanum

and neverwinter nights 1 looks... sluggish.
i don't know, i think the genre might not be for me, but all of you say that baldurs gate is really great.
>>343932229
dropped dragon age for the same reason - too much work with the mulitple party members.
>>
>>343932605
If you don't like cRPGs that's fine, just don't become a shitposters denouncing their very existence because >opinions
>>
>>343932605
You don't have to control your party members in Dragon Age.
>>
Perfect thread to ask this:

I'm playing BG2 right now and just "killed" Irenicus at the tree of life. Two of my party members died during the fight. Can I get their gear back after the fight or do I have to reload?

The Baldurs Gate series is basically like the Elder Scrolls series, OP. Meaning it's a really shallow and awful game backed by some "amazing lore" that's segmented all across the shallow and awful game.

Just save yourself, stop and play Fallout 1 or 2 if you want a good WRPG.
