You don't interact with the environment in any meaningful way in most other high-profile open world fantasy games. You look at shit and pick up items but that's about it. I see what you're saying and for RPGs released on consoles I could see that being the case but if you've played PC RPGs you're used to being spoiled for options there. Compared to skyrim, sure this game has a lot more direct activities. Compared to say Arx Fatalis or (I hate to say it because everything but the combat is trash) Divinity: Original Sin its not new.
