This doesn't work unless you have motion joy for the driver. I got motion joy, and nothing changed. The software can't read the controller at all. The PC is aware that a playstation controller is plugged in, but beyond that, there's no response.

You get the motionjoy driver, and then you have to use the program to configure the port the controller is in as the driver's port. After that you should be able to use BetterDs3 to map the controller.
Every driver will blue screen your computer eventually since they aren't signed.

Alternatively, I had a "powera" controller that was compatible with PS3, and PC. It could be emulated as an Xbox 360 controller.
Perhaps if you got a powera for ps4, then you could emulate it as an xbox controller for PC, and have more versatility that way.

Most people that can't get the ds3 controller to work are because they think installing motioninjoy is enough. You have to go to the driver management tab(or whatever it's called) and have motioninjoy install the drivers first. Then close the program(don't uninstall it) and use betterDS3.
Seriously, make sure you actually had the program install the drivers, it doesn't happen automatically when you install. Three of my(admittedly retarded) friends didn't figure this out.

Also, there's an xinput wrapper you can install that means you won't have to have any application open, neither ds3tool or betterds3. Downside is you have to manually place it in the game file for each game you want to use your controller with, but it's nicer in the long run being able to just start the game without opening up betterds3

Install DS3 driver.
Install 360 driver.
Install SCP driver.
Now your computer recognizes the DS3 as 360 controller without motionjoy or dstool
