So how much did FFX-2 shit all over the bittersweet ending of FFX?
>>
I thought the normal ending of X-2 more than fits the narrative point of how the dream fades. Shit gets wack as hell with the audio novella.
>>
>>343854512
Why is teedus wearing a sombrero?
>>
If you think the ending of X-2 was shit, you need to read the audiobook sequel to them. It's a literal trainwreck.
>>
>>343854937
>he didn't play the Mexicano version

Missed out on the canon version mate
>>
>>343854512
Very little.

>>343854863
Also this. The 100% ending is nice just to have a stereotypical happy ending.
>>
Where they ever going to make an X-3? That novella doesn't count.

not much at all

There were multiple endings, so you can choose one where he doesn't come back.

The audio drama however , was quite possibly the worst thing they could've possibly done to X's narrative.

>>343855332
Hopefully never, the story already ended twice
>>
>>343854512
A good sum. I'm mostly in between with X-2.

>>343855332
Auron, Jecht, Braska prequel was considered at some point.
>>
>>343855515
What the hell happened in the audio thing that has everyone so upset?
>>
X-2 was ok
If you want a true shit storm, look up the summary of the FFX-2.5 book and audio drama
>>
>>343855856
Just forget it exists, trust me on this
>>
>>343855541
>Auron, Jecht, Braska prequel was considered at some point.
And this could have possibly been a better fit into how Sin affects Spira and expand on the parents and Aurons past
>>
>>343855856

It's completely bizarre. Tidus gets killed in a total throw away manner, he has super creepy rapey undertones with yuna, everything goes to shit since all that you done in X and X-2 are voided because lol sin returned or whatever.
>>
>>343855856
It basically negated everything in FFX and X-2
Yuna goes back to how she was in FFX, mannerisms and all
She and Tidus break up or some shit
Sin is back somehow

>>
>>343854512
It destroys it. They retcon it in the international/PAL version by adding a cutscene that ties it to X-2. Tidus wakes up in the water at the beach of Besaid where Wakka found him. This actually doesn't happen in X-2 until the true ending, though.

They managed to both retcon a great ending and spoil the ending to the sequel in one go.
>>
>>343856157
It's extremely vague
Tidus dies on some island by kicking a bomb mistaken for a blitzball
Yuna revives Tidus but somehow "He isn't the same"
Yuna breaks up with Tidus and Tidus asks Lulu who it is Yuna likes now, and all Lulu says is that he should know her better than that.
It's never explained who it is and what she meant
>>
>>343856157

Ending-wise not much. Most of my gripes were just in the main game. I just had trouble buying Yuna's new bad-girl attitude. I get she's trying to dress up more like Tidus but the difference just felt jarring to me.

Well it certainly makes a couple things in FFX look retroactively stupid and asinine

>This whole time we had a world destroying weapon that could totally destroy Sin sitting in our basement for the past 1000 years
>We never used it because the IFF doesn't work
>Even though its user operated and there's no possible way any pilot would confuse a regular person for a giant flying space whale

To answer OP X-2 actually has a pretty good story once it gets going and as long as you're doing 100% for all the extra scenes with the crimson squad, it just takes a bit to get there
>>
>>343857074
The idea is that with Teedus's absence she's been spreading her wings and doing things she's always wanted to do but never could. So it turns out this entire time Yuna could sing and she just never had the opportunity to express it.
>>
>>343854512

They were terrified of machina, which was viewed as evil/forbidden, and the world was much more dangerous to randomly explore in search of such a machina, even for the Al Bhed.

That's the best explanation I can provide for some of that, at least.
>>
>>343857074
The first song wasn't her and the second she got help/possessed by the spirit of the singing summoner thanks to the songstress desssphere.
>>
>>343857183
X-2 was anime as fuck. I mean X was anime too but I can buy X's story over a civil war being settled by a music concert. A concert by the way that's comprised of ONE SONG that people traveled half a planet to get to.
>>
>>343855856
they break up 'because', and he kicks a bomb blowing his head off, then she rezzes him again, and SIn is back you didn't achieve jack shit.

it literally makes everything you did in x and x-2 pointless, and the yevonites right all along.
>>
>>343856884
The way I saw it, this was a young woman who, up until a few years before X-2 spent her life conditioning herself as a sacrifice, so she didn't have much opportunity to be more extroverted and explore her desires as much as a non-summoner would.

X-2 is basically about Yuna trying to find her place in the world now that she doesn't have the threat of Sin of being a sacrificial lamb hanging over her anymore. I can see why somebody in that position may exhibit some major changes in personality. If you thought you were fated to die, and then suddenly you weren't and everything was fine then what do you think you do?
>>
>>343857276
I thought that too, until I remembered that this was Bevelle that did it. Remember Bevelle never stopped using machina, they just hid it. So Bevelle should never have had any fear of using Vegnagun. Especially since Bevelle knew that the entire Yevon religion was bullshit and that Sin was never going to go away.
>>
>>343854512
Don't know, I heard 100%ing it or something brought Tidus back and I decided not to ruin a genuinely good story with that kind of bullshit. The gameplay looked interesting, but not enough to make it worth destroying a sstory I really loved.
>>
>>343856884
She was never a bad girl, just a mousy girl trying very badly to be tougher.

she's trying to find herself, her old identity as a summoner is no longer the same, and with Tidus dead she's trying to both move on from him and sort out what they were

Shuyin's basically a representation of what she could have become, someone unable to 'let go' of the past and clinging to it forever.
>>
>>343857538
But the leaders of Bevelle didn't want Sin to go away. The were of the mind that the world needed the hopelessness and small ray of hope that the whole Sin Summoner cycle provided.
>>
>>343857538
They cared more about controlling people than fixing the actual problem, FFX's world was fucked up
>>
>>343857374
They break up because Yuna brought him back by wishing hard enough, but if he remembers he died due to kicking a bomb, he'll disappear again. So she leaves him to reduce the chances of that happening.
>>
>>343854512
At least Tidus wasn't a big part of x-2
x-2 was some kind of girlpower romp. I liked a few of the sections and the endgame dungeon.
>>
>>343857538
Mika probably knew Sin would come back no matter how hard it was btfo, assuming he even knew about Vegnagun. Not to mention the possibility of everyone becoming disillusioned with the Yevon religion if they see them piloting a huge mecha
>>
>>343857470
This, that's also why the normal ending works better. With Shuyin being a representation of what she'd become if she cannot move on from Tidus, her overcoming him and being able to move forward shows her growth as a person.

>>343857538
they use machina they can control. if they were in danger enough they'd have used Vegnagun guaranteed but remember the main reason Vegna works at all is because Shuyin knows how to control it.
>>

>>343856951

Not as much as 2.5 did.
>>
>>343857686
Incorrect. Remember Maester Mika's freak out after Teedus and crew killed Yunalesca? He allowed himself to pass to the Farplane because defeating Sin was now entirely impossible and he had no desire to watch Spira sink into despair. It's not that Bevelle wanted Sin to stick around, it was that Bevelle thought Sin could never be truly defeated so they peddled the bullshit religion to keep every pacified and maintain the status quo.

https://youtu.be/-ZODzFiYNjU?t=6m16s
>>
>>343857839
this is the problem with rezzing people plots. you can't have them break up because it trivializes the entire extra bullshit of getting them back. it's made worse because X-2 has a serviceable normal ending of her moving on,then a dumbass roundabout 'true' ending where you get him back. to just have them break up after is like 'Why did I bother to bring him back at all?"
>>
Not significantly, they only ruined Yuna herself
>>
>>343857953
Probably, but the airships and hover platforms are probably more useful for the needs of Yevonites.
>>
>>343857953
There is no train in Spira, there is only

SHOOPUF

there is no literal train wreck, that anon just used literal wrong
>>
>>343858031
which makes the novella even worse because it means he was right all along, you can't remove him ever. and now we don't have the pilgrimage which at least gave us periods of peace.
>>
>>343857943
Actually let's talk about Shuyin for a minute. Now I'll concede that I don't remember the specifics of why he spent the last 1000 years jacking off underneath Mushroom Rock. But what I do want to know is why this asshole is not a monster already. Lulu said that fiends come from ghosts who are filled with hatred for the living and that's what causes them to devolve into fiends and prey on the living. Shuyin's entire character revolves around his hatred for everyone. No like literally all of humanity.

I'm genuinely asking for an answer here because my memory of Shuyin's origin story is foggy because it's been a minute since I played the game which is why I'm not going to ask why he waited an entire millennium to carry out his grand plan of avenging his girlfriend on people who never even knew she existed.

>Everything done in the 2 games undone
>Ultimate unbeatable monster comes back along with a bunckle of ghosts
>World is doomed with no hope for survival

Is FFX the darkest FF?
>>
>>343858695
FFX is probably darker than most. Despite my bitching I actually do like FFX, it's one of my favorite games. Everyone in the world is basically waiting to die and the only thing they have to look forward to is Blitzball. Yuna only agreed to marry Seymour just so that the people of Spira could have something to be happy about for like a couple of weeks. She was still set and ready to die for everyone. It's just the more sequels they add to the story the weirder things get.
>>
>>343858496
force of will basically, he feels so much guilt over failing to protect Lenne he can't pass on, and his willpower keeps him from becoming a monster. He's more or less bound to vegnagun also because that's where he died.

he was probably going to become a fiend soon, as he assumed Yuna was Lenne when she's in the dressphere, and only thinks otherwise when she acts outside of his memories, so he clearly wasn't as aware of the world anymore, and lost in his own guilt as it were.
>>
>>343858695
Never played DoC but FFVII has everyone get Planet-Cancer and Sephiroth turns out to be unkillable too.

The only thing is that ending when Red XVIXVII and his kids are looking over Midgar is still canon.

>>343858496
Why do so many SE plots boil down to "My GF died, remove humanity"? Xenogears did that too. Deus killed a lot of people Krelian get over it.
>>
>>343858496
Here's another question about Shuyin since I have no idea how to answer yours other than with another question.

Is Tidus the dream recreation of Shuyin or a unique dream-person created by the Fayth? Was Tidus at one point a real person who lived in Zanarkand who just happened to look like Shuyin? Or, is he just some random dream the Fayth were having based on their memories of Shuyin combining with the idea of a Blitzball star?

If this was straight-up answered and I've forgotten about it, fuck me.
>>
>>343859615
Tidus is probably the Fayth's recreation of Shuyin visually, and just sharing a few similarities, mostly for thematic so Shuyin can serve as foil to yuna's internal conflict.
>>
>>343859615
The last one...I think. The thing about the Fayth's Dreams is that once they're dreamed up they are, for all intents and purposes, real. Like Teedus was able to call up his mother's image in the Farplane. Bahamut also said something about being touched by Sin makes Teedus and Jecht something more than just dreams. The only drawback is that once the Fayth goes so do you.
>>
>>343859613
>Why do so many SE plots boil down to "My GF died, remove humanity"? Xenogears did that too. Deus killed a lot of people Krelian get over it.
Because they try to make villains sympathetic and the only way they can think to make them feel like they have nothing left to lose is to kill their girlfriends. Because online dating doesn't exist in their worlds.
>>
>>343860084
Sin existed to protect the dream zanarkand out in the ocean and destroy the people if they grew too advanced. I assume what they fayth are implying is that once Tidus and Jecht become touched by Sin, they can partly act 'outside' the will of the Faythh. Jecht and tidus once 'touched' by sin are able to exist outside the city and have free will, but as they are still Fayth constructs will vanish when the Fayth wake up.
>>
>>343859615
>Or, is he just some random dream the Fayth were having based on their memories of Shuyin combining with the idea of a Blitzball star?
These seems to be the case since he was born from his mother and jecht albeit that shuyin was his own self-person
>>
>>343858695

It isn't the darkest. VIII ends with humanity basically extinct in terms of agency and repeatedly going through the same events eternally. X still has some sort of a chance.
>>
>>343856537
How is it not cannon? Like, Square included it as part of the HD remake release. Isn't that basically saying "oh, right, and here's what happened after!" and basically them stamping an official stupid stamp on it?

don't get me wrong, I think it's dumb as shit (especially with them going lol, nah, no 3rd game} but I don't get how it's not considered cannon when they released it themselves?
>>
>>343862432
VIII was a weird game and sometimes I get really depressed thinking about it.
>>
>>343860440
Dream Zanarkand had a physical manifestation out in the ocean somewhere???
>>
>>343860440
Since Sin is Jecht, wouldn't the Fayth just have to wake up to make him go away in general?
>>
>>343864161
Didn't Sin, or Yevon, have to die before they could stop dreaming?
>>
>>343864880
Despite doing my 5th play through a year ago I can't remember shit about the details regarding that. As much as I love the game, there are parts that make me go full ??? and I forget right after they explain it.

Also, to hell with that last battle with Yevon/Yu Yevon that you can't lose.
>>
>>343863518
People wanted more FFX so they made that tape to wrap it up.

Thing is, they basically vomited out of a corpse in 23 seconds.

Ignore it. It's not canon and the HD remaster itself shits on that series enough has it is.
>>
>>343859613
It's been a long time since I played it, but I remember Krelian wanted to remove Solaris. It's just, as he learned more about what was really going on, his objectives shifted. Then once he learned about literal God (the Wave Existence), what was he supposed to do?
Anyway, I recall Krelian's real goal was unification with literal God, which required getting all of Deus' stooges out of the way: Cain, Gazel, and Miang, chiefly. Since Cain has super healing and Miang instantly reincarnates, that's a tall order.

>>343863981
My interpretation is that dream Zanarkand is actually inside Sin, and that this is where the fight against Jecht takes place. That does imply that Sin manifested inside itself at the beginning, but that doesn't actually seem that far-fetched. Given that you already travel inside Sin (the final dungeon) and run into Jecht, who is himself supposed to be Sin.
>>
>>343859906
Now I wanna see who the fuck they based Jecht off of.
>>
>>343866997
