I played this game because it was free on PSN last month. I vowed never to spend money on a walking simulator again ever since I paid for Firewatch. Ugh. Gone Home is a very typical love story filled with trite cliches. If your girlfriend has made you sit through a romance movie, you know the plot of Gone Home. The only reason why people praise Gone Home is because the couple in question is a homosexual couple, critics feel that they are obligated to praise the game to avoid accusations of bigotry. However, inserting a same-sex couple into a love story I've seen 1,027 times before doesn't make it novel or profound.
I would recommend watching playthrough on Youtube, since the game is completely linear and the story etched in stone. Don't waste any money on it.

Look, I'm basically an SJW, and I finished his game in like 30 minutes, and do not think it was worth the time. Skip it.
The game never deserves any of the praises or scores it got. The creators were personal friends of corrupted sjw gaming journalists. This game did not get it's perfect scores from merit, it got it based on having connections.
This game represents everything wrong with the indie scene and gaming journalism.
No. It's just a generic love story. The attempts at environmental storytelling are undermined by the fact that most of the story is given via magical voiceovers. This game was given rave reviews by insecure people who try to prove games are art by putting pretentious things like this on a pedestal, instead of simply letting quality games speak for themselves. That said, I wouldn't say its a bad game, just not worth the money. I got it for free on PS4 and would recommend you do the same if you have any interest in it.
