Why did we ever care about Mighty Blunder 9 when a superior spiritual successor already exists?
>>
Azure Striker Gunvolt wasn't that great, but then again I only played the 3DS version with the cut content.

It was better than Mighty No 9 i'll say that, what i've seen of Copen in the sequel looks better and he might be fun to play.
>>
>>343825117
I have never played Gunvolt but I thought this was a successor to Gunstar Heroes
>>
>>343825830
That would be more worth doing than a follow up to megaman of all things.

Gunvolt is fucking shit tho, the lightning gimmick is just as bad as MN9 absorb dash.
>>
Why the fuck did the localisers think it would be a good idea to change the character names? It's fucking distracting having the dialogue and the text not match up. It's not like the names needed changing in the first place.
>>
>>343830094
Most of the time I don't even realise it since I don't really pay attention to the voices (it's Jap, I don't understand it so why bother listening?) but it's really noticeable with skill names.

Like, Sunshine Nova becoming Refulgence. What the hell? There is literally no point changing that.

http://nichegamer.com/2016/07/04/8-4-handle-localizing-nier-automata/

“As for localisation, the team working on it is called 8-4.They actually changed a lot from the original script to fit the different regions,” said NieR: Automata director Taro Yoko. 8-4 is known for localizing games such as the original NieR, Drakengard 3, and Azure Striker Gunvolt, with the former having more adult dialogue cut, and the latter seeing its English release having lots of dialogue cut, or random pronouns thrown in."

Just pretend the game doesn't exist anon. You can't save it. Look away, it's already dead.
>>
>>343832474
The only thing I'm aware of is the curtain over Tharja's swimsuit. Henry and Gregor were also changed some, but most people consider those changes for the better.

There's also all the pointless name changes, but literally every Fire Emblem does that, so it'd be weird if they actually didn't.
>>
>>343825117
Marking enemies and then hitting a button to do damage disconnects you from the combat and is not fun. It is trying to get you to worry more about movement during combat, but it just makes you stand around like an idiot at times. Not saying MN9 also has a problem of not being fun but don't try and prop Gunvolt as some great thing.
>>
>>343832861
I'm not familiar with Nier and Drakengard, but those are bleak games correct? Like, built to be grim, dark games that are rated M for a reason. What's gained from toning down on that stuff?
>>
>>343833112
Yeah, you're right. It's filled with weird shit like the party member who is a pedophile and the elf girl who eats babies and the futanari girl with the demon cock or something.

Macabre, dark, depressing, violent and sexual. Clearly not intended for younger players at all, so why tone it down for younger players?

This argument goes both ways actually. The developers and writers never intended for the marriage mechanics to be in the game to begin with. In fact at least half the developers were against the face touching minigame even being included.

Really? Was this forced on them because of Awakening's popularity?

>In fact at least half the developers were against the face touching minigame even being included.
Most dissenting opinions we never hear because what ships is all most people see. Games are likely always full of compromises. Except in those cases where one person made a game. In the end, a feature was cut because they thought we couldn't handle it. I think I'd want a game as it shipped unless it means ADDING content.
>>
so, gunvolt is becoming meme or something?

I think people have started appreciating it more after seeing that yes, it's possible to fuck up a Mega Man-style game.

Comcept needs to do the industry a favor and file for bankruptcy.
>>
>>343832571
Shovel knight has more in common with ducktales than with megaman, the only reason people relate the two is bacause every 8bit "retro" indie goes for megaman visuals
>>
Gunvolt is ok but the default means of fighting enemies just feels tedious rather than fun.

Also is there any point to projecting that giant visual graphic of electricity besides making it hard to see what's going on?
>>
>>343842053
And because of the 8 boss format. And because they're all named "____ Knight" instead of "____ Man." And also maybe the boss rush. They took several pretty core inspirations from Megaman, no matter how you slice it.

It's in purpose, it detonates missiles before they hit GV and blocks some projectiles but it's harder to see bullets when you're using it, so you have to pay attention to your surroundings if you want to keep your score high.

It counts as an attack and hurts things inside it, albeit for much less damage than your tag+lightning combo. It's useful for getting rid of destroyable missiles and adding a DOT effect against bosses though.

Found it http://www.siliconera.com/2014/08/18/keiji-inafune-talks-contribution-azure-striker-gunvolt/
>“I was approached by [CEO] Mr. Aizu of Inti Creates, who showed me this game and asked me how to go about selling it,” Inafune says. “So, I told him to let me play through the game. I didn’t think much of it. It was just really dull and not worth releasing as a product.”
>“The potential was there,” Inafune adds. “Mr. Aizu really just wanted to know how to market the game, and all I did was criticize the action. But then he said, ‘Okay, we’ll change it.’ [I] couldn’t believe it. I told him my ideas and he agreed to them. So, I thought, might as well get involved.”

Considering how MN9 is also full of gimmicky gameplay, I'm pretty sure what he calls "dull" was a regular run and shoot game
>>
>>343843494

I'm surprised GalGun isn't getting censored. It really makes me wonder why some games get censored over minor stuff but then games like Senran Kagura appear with minor changes if any.

It's certainly not the power of the studio/developer or anything, I think all comes down to how much you're willing to fight for an uncensored game. And a lot of companies don't care at all.
>>
>repeat the same line of dialogue over and over
>you feel closer to joule

Also I don't understand why they did the whole 'I quit Quill' thing at the start. No... I do understand the reasons behind it in story. But why did the devs even go to the lengths to set that up? You still take contracts from Quill, you're still briefed by them. You still talk to them. You are still literally a team member in all but name. What was the point of all that?
>>
>>343845724
Theoretically it's to show how much Gunvolt cares about Joule and wants her to live a normal life, but he can't escape his fate and still has to fight regardless. Of course in the end Joule gets caught up in the fighting and dies anyway.

Either I'm overthinking this or the game had a poorly explained 2deep4u thing going on in the background.

This was without mentioning the little fact that the japanese version had a fucking button to turn the dialogue off and on. They removed a feature and called it a service to the consumer.

Steam let's you pick from the gutted version, and the full version. After people who bought the 3DS version lost their shit about it, they first said that there wasn't enough space to house the new script. This being clear bullshit, they announced a patch to basically turn it into the Steam release in terms of content.

And here we are, months later, with no word. The trailer they showed off for the physical bundle release seems to be using the full script, so either they are releasing the bundle and the update simultaneously, or they are jewing us into buying the bundle to experience the update.

I didn't know about this.

Will it be free if I already own it?

It is a re-release mate. You think it gonna be free?

Mmmm nope.

Odd, I only played the 3ds version but i remember plenty of dialogue in the stages. Are you sure?

Literally generic animu waif trash.

There'll be a patch for the eshop release of ASG. It will obviously not include ASG2.

When I played the 3DS version there was no in-stage dialogue, and it wasn't added until the Steam version. By in-stage dialogue I mean that there's action text that pops up while you're playing the stage, coupled with Japanese voice acting.

Certainly no voice acting but there was text pop ups for sure.

It depends on the environment. If you aren't exposed to older siblings and shit that care about it, you probably didn't either.
>>

I had no older siblings and I was sex charged at that age.
>>
>>343855608
And you didn't have friends obsessed with it? Parents that were open about it? Nothing?
>>
>>343855682
I was molested by slightly older girls from a young age. My parents were in a band and I was often travelling along with them to their friends' houses and left to get up to mischief with their horny daughters while they played music.

Well, uh... damn dude. I wasn't expecting anything that straight forward. I wasn't even implying anything that drastic had to cause it.

that sounds redundant

It had low budget and Gunvolt's tag gameplay needed something else since it always felt a bit stale.
