So forgive the blog post /v/ but I want to get my opinions about each route/character out, in the order that I played them. Not like I have anyone else to talk about this with since none of my friends like VNs.

This route could have been good if the guy who wrote it didn't play it safe and write a variation on a very common story. It's still decent and Emi is a fun character, probably my favorite, but something's still missing.

I don't like this route much. Someone up above said the side-characters are the only good thing and they're pretty right. Hisao grows as a person but Shizune feels like a royal bitch at all times.

What is this, I don't even. It feels like this route tries very hard to be deep. It does this while managing to have some nice ideas and portrays a character who sucks at expression well. It leaves me feeling blank, with neither a good or a bad opinion. Morose, though.

Probably the biggest feel good route, especially if you get the good ending. Lily's fun and the route feels like two teenagers actually getting to know each other and falling in love. I still get feels from that 'we're two kids pretending to be adults' line.

Hanako's route gets overhyped IMO. my first run was with Emi, followed by Shizune, then Rin, then Lily, then Hanako - save the best for last and all that - and I was completely underwhelmed. Rin had a far better arc than Hanako, and arguably 2 'good' endings.Lily was the only one that made me break down and cry. Lily > Rin > Emi > Hanako > Shizune.

The side material from the guy who wrote Hanako's route is pretty rad.
He got a pretty interesting take on how the relationship between Hisao, Shizune and Misha would end up like. And his mini-stories with Hanako were also an enjoyable read.

It's really sad how bad KS ended up being. The cyoa threads had a significantly better story and that was written on the fly. The writers do not have a single entertaining bone in their bodies. It was genuinely one of the worst things I have ever read (not the worst, that's Campione).

I disagree. Putting in years of effort to produce garbage isn't impressive it's sad. Like I said the choose your own adventure threads were actually entertaining and that was just one guy putting in a few months. Katawa Shoujo's failure really emphasizes the importance of making sure the people working on something actually have the skills necessary to do it.
