You can try using Personal Abilities to gear everybody toward survival/support rather than anything offense-related. He's immune to Hold, of course.
You can also try piling Tranquility on everybody to keep his enrage threshold high to give you more time before/between his enrages. When he flips his gourd, you could try splitting the group up until he tires himself out, then converge on him again. Poison might help in wearing him down while you're avoiding him.
Likely a good deal more slow and steady than with a group of live players, but it might be more doable that way. I haven't had my shot at him yet.

Oracle recover up with the Cornix PS can restore HALF of your OP gauge with one bite and that's ineffectual? Look at quick charge, and power strike, nice combo right there for Buster Swords or spears, but no that's just ineffectual. And you talk about armor being an identifier, but you can immediately tell a guy has fought some cool shit when you see him with a fully upgraded Vajra spear, or a cannon made from Tsukuyomi parts with 6 good skills on it. You pick up a hammer well I expect you to smash the head, you got a cannon? Stockpile OP and blast the ever loving shit out of it. The story is a big part of the game, more so than Toukiden. You can skip most cut scenes if you don't care though, but you still have to talk to specific characters to get a story mission to come up. The MP is just lobbies, so you can make a room and invite your friends, put a password, or limit the amount of people in the room and turn on or off chat. The gameplay is a lot faster than MH, and you can switch from melee to ranged at the press of a button.

I know that for Burst to 2, you could transfer up to 12 equipment based on a tier requirement and for each tier you hit you got bonuses from items to tickets you could use to get material. Your MC from the first game was also referenced in 2 by 1's party.
