God that series was shit.
Any Grand Strategy game, such as the Paradox titles. Examples include Europa Universalis IV, Crusader Kings II, Stellaris, and HoI IV. The older titles are generally considered better while having a much steeper learning curve so you'd be best off looking into those four if you want to get into them. The games are very in-depth and offer countless of hours of entertainment, yet can be paused and hardly require in-game sounds.
I played those a lot while browsing or watching things.
You could also look into turn-based games such as Heroes III, or Civilization (IV or V I guess)
