Do you support your local gaming store /v/?
>>
yeah but they all turned into gamestops anyway
>>
Fuck no. I don't feel like paying for upcharged used games.
>>
>>343761246
No.

I mean, I would, if I like had a job. I wouldn't mind paying for more to shoot the shit with other enthusiasts.

Videogames are such a cheap hobby it's ridiculous.
>>
>>343761485
How do you charge a game?
>>
Sometimes
>>
>>343761246

why do you live in such a filthy neighborhood?

you should quit spending money on useless games and focus on getting out of niggertown
>>
>>343761479
I supported Gamestop when they used to sell NES and SNES games.
>>
>have a local small business vidya store near me
>it's just a clone of gamestop but higher used game prices, no rewards bonuses, issues with pre-orders, lower trade in values, etc.

Fuck that. I'm just going to keep using gamestop.

>>

Back when Hollywood video was a thing. I'd stop by before and shoot the shit with employees. Was there so much I was on a first name basis with everyone. I would always get discounts and free shit. They would also give me passes for free rentals. It was the best. To bad it got shut down.
>>
>>343761683

>>
I live in a town of less than 5,000 people. We don't have a local gaming store.
>>
>>343761632

you have no clue where that actually is do you
>>
>>343761750

doesn't matter where it is, the fucking sign is tagged up by gangs, you're in a niggertown
>>
Why yes I do in fact. There are only 2 game shops in town. GAME and GamesCentre. Even when games are cheaper in GAME I always go to GamesCentre for my purchases because they actually seem to like and enjoy games and let me try out their VR helmet they had just got in. There's only about 10 stores in the UK but they're great places.
>>
>>343761246
yes, especially since i get games a few days early from them
>>
>>343761749

My local store got closed down cause Game opened down the road and stole all their buisness. Pretty shit desu, I used to hang out there and became friends with the owner.

Is NYC the ugliest city in the US?
>>
>>343761246
My local stores prices are worse then eBay, so no, I hope they go out of business soon.
>>
>>343762226
NYC is no different from any other big city in the world. There are clean, nice areas and there are gross areas.

To answer your question though, pretty much any big city in Florida is uglier.

I miss EB Games. I remember when I was a kid I used go to the EB at the mall so often that all the people working there knew me and let me try out any game on the xbox demo station they had.

Gamestop is fucking garbage.
>>
My local vidya store is charging 45 bucks for dark souls. What do you think?
>>
>>343761945
NYC is niggertown?
>>
I don't think I've ever had a "local store". It's always been either Walmart or Gamestop.
>>
Nope.
Games are more expensive and less available. after a while they stop being friends with you and start treating loyal customers like shit.
>>
>>343761246
Depends on the game. For example, my parents have amazon prime so I can get stuff cheap with free next day delivery. if the price is similar with the local place on the high street though i'll just go there because the owner is cool and we always have a conversation about shit. confuses some of the locals 12 year olds when there's a guy in a suit talking to some fat weeb looking faggot though, I think kids just assume anyone who looks slightly normal shouldn't be playing vidya in their 20's
>>
No. It's not my fault they decided to open an obsolete business and actually expected it to make money.
>>
I support whoever gives me the lowest price.
>>
>>343761246
Those places are just for buying imports and good weed. Also just for hanging out in.

With digital downloading is Gamestop and local stores like these a dying business? Is Gamestop going to be the next blockbuster?
>>
Why yes
>>
I have one that's kinda local that's mainly pre-owned stuff, but they have three arcade cabinets too, one has Metal Slug X, so I go there whenever I can.
Prices are decent and it's the only place with a decent PS2 section, never looked into getting new games or preorders from them though.
>>
>>343761246
There are none.

So I just buy online.

No because they're a bunch of turbokikes
They plow Facebook buy/sell/trade groups daily looking for good deals, haggling to get them even cheaper and resell them in their store next day.
I avoid those fuckers like the plague.
>>
>>343761246
I did but
>has limited selection if good games
>ends up with many copies of bad games

>GameCube controller I bought from them was subtlely broken

They went out of business anyway.

I work at it and we are doing extremely well for just a local business. We have great prices and hive decent money back.

Also on good terms with the local GameStop and Best Buy. We are friends with the manager and he comes in all the time and we swap discounts at each other's stores

I suppose it helps we are really well known for our retro games and systems so we arnt supper imposing on them.
>>
>>343761246
I don't have any nearby local gaming store, they all got replaced with Gamestop then Gamestop left and basically forced me to buy games from Best Buy
>>
I'm not even aware of a local store around where I live. Gamestop pretty much reigns supreme. Fuck there's even two gamestops in close proximity of each other.
>>
There's a non-Gamestop vidya store where I live, but I'm not gonna support them just for the sake of it. If I can get a lower price at Amazon/Best Buy then that's where I'll buy it from.
>>
i used to have a game stop in my area from about 2005 to 2008 or so. ok prices, i got in on the ground floor when they opened, got to know the owner which let me be able to see what he was getting in before it hit the shelf.

being a small area, it died though in about 3-4 years. if i was opening a store, i'd just toss all my stuff in a storage unit and post on craigslist for good prices. everyone gets a nice price, what they want, i get money, im happy.
>>
>Videogamesnewyork

It's a museum at best. Don't buy anything from there, it's way too expensive.

They justify selling new games at $69.99 because their rent is high (in Manhattan)

I took my business to the gamestop a few blocks away.

Yeah, I gotta say they need to be more cautious about the shit they buy and actually test it.

I usually go to Retrotaku Games in Madison Heights, MI. They got a lot of imports and prices are pretty fair.

We had 2.

The first and better one closed down because the owner was a lazy dick who would take off for 2+ hours for lunch in the middle of the day all the time, and sold untested shit like broken sega CD systems.

He posted a big sob story note on the door when he closed about how gamestop ruined him. Fucker you took videos of you guys making kids angry in the store, told customers to fuck off and went to lunch for hours every day. Yeah, gamestop ruined your business.

The second one is a play n trade. Their stock is meh, but the prices are outrageous. Any old games of any notoriety are $40 minimum there.

I have like 6 local gamestores near where I live, and like 2 more in the nearby mall.
All of them sell the same shit at terrible prices.
Their games that they sell from this gen and last are more expensive than the gamestop equivalent. Their retro game selections are just the most common games garage sale quality games ramped up to $10-$30 a piece. The few actually rare games they have are all like $80 behind the counter.
And they all have the exact same plushes for sale at the exact same huge markup. I don't care how local you are, I'm not paying $30 for a 5 inch pokemon or mario plush, when the same thing is like $10-15 on amazon or even the actual Pokemon center site.

The one time I've enjoyed a visit to a local game store is when one of the ones in teh mall was closing down and all their games were half off. I walked out of there with a bag full of old xbox games that I'd been meaning to get for years, because the prices were actually reasonable for almost 15 year old bargin bin games.

They got a lot of cool games and imports. It may not be a big place, but there's still some eye candy in there, like the glass cases that have things like the Panasonic GameCube (yup, they still have it). Only problem is that they expanded the store space a WHILE ago, but they haven't gotten around to putting in new flooring or organizing some things, so it looks a little off when you go further back in the store.
Still, worth a look if you're in the area.

I hope not. I fucking hate digital and it's bad enough it's my only option on PC.
>>
I try, but only one out of the three in my area has reasonable prices. The staff there consists entirely of unpleasant, fat neckbeards with no customer service or general social skills. It's awkward to go into, so I usually grab what I want and leave ad soon as possible.

Writing websites and point of sale software. If you have taken sql and vb, you should be able to market yourself. I have made more freelancing than I ever did with part time shit.

That's pretty cool. I'm looking to take a business trip to ann arbor and look for work in the next year or so, so I will definitely check it out. Ann Arbor a good place?

Bronx people are terrible. The whole borough is a shithole. Even the "nice" parts. Fuck you and fuck your shitty borough.

Arrogance for proudly living in a expensive shithole.

I don't have a gaming store actually. They don't even sell games at Kmart anymore and Blockbuster shut down. So all I have is Amazon.

My gaming store died a year after gamestop moved in like 10 years ago. They were overpriced, and the owner was a cunt. I don't know why you'd own a video game store if you don't like video games or the people who play them.
>>
>>343761246
They don't exist near me anymore, all closed down.
>>
I wish more Game stores would be a normal thing in NYC.
>>
Are local gamestores only good for retro stuff or would online shopping be a better option?
>>
is G2K a popular chain?
despite my town's relatively small size I have 3 gamestops and 2 G2Ks
G2K is good for anything 7th gen and below
>>
>>343793476
423? I love g2k cause they rarely update their prices and shit will be cheaper than ebay.
>>
>>343766364
At least you have a specialized gaming store. With blockbuster dead my shithole only has sanborns and other department stores with dudebro shit. There's this kiosk that has God-Tier selection but the fucking prices are insane ($2,500 MXP for Xenoblade X Collectors, $5,000 MXP for the Fates New 3DS XL, etc.)
>>
>>343761246
I was just at VideoGamesNewYork last month. Cramped but beautiful.
>>
>>343761246
I would if my local mom & pop stores would stop selling games at prices comparable to eBay scalpers. Outside of the occasion sale, I've never seen them offer PS1 games for less than $40, or GCN games for less than $60.

I recently visited the previous town I lived in, at one of the mom & pop stores there I was able to snag Front Mission 3 for $14, Castlevania Symphony of the Night non-GH for $8, and Puyo Pop Fever on GCN for $14. All complete and in like new condition. If I weren't wasting my money then on booze and casinos, I would have bought an aisle or two worth of retro games from them.
>>
>>343761246
Yes, had a go at some of the arcade machines and got The Technomancer.

The Neo-Geo game was a fun shmup, but The Technomancer is just a shittier version of The Witcher, not recommended.
>>
>>343786061
I usually go to kinokuniya, Gyu-Kaku, visit friends, or go to Video Games New York
>>
No, buying games online is way cheaper and easier.

Where can I buy used ps3 games online that will ship to Europe at a reasonable price?

>>343773642
Do they really sell new games $70 new? I used to buy games there since they broke street date but haven't been there in over a year since I started pirating more.

>>343792715
I've never been to a city with more local owned game stores than NYC. One of the few perks of living here is that you can find pretty much any game even ones that haven't been released yet if you know where to look. Though online shopping has kinda made it obsolete

>>343768628
lol
>>
>>343798539
Wanted import games and too lazy to learn how to pirate.
Good thing I did too, turns out the Kid Icarus anime shorts are My Nintendo rewards in Japan, and it's so hard to find high quality rips of them. Got the first 4 with my points and I can get the last 2 in 2 weeks before they go out of circulation.
>>
>>343761246
i was just there for my monthly check for anything good. and i walked out with nothing but i may go back for that megaman starforce complete works.
>>
>>343761246
I've been in there a few times. Nothing is at a good price.
>>
Yep. I usually get a bit of store credit in the weekly Smash tournaments so I head over after I get my paycheck. The selection is great and the clerks are really cool dudes; if any of you fellows ever visit Columbus, OH, consider checking out Buckeye Video Game Connection. The local Play-It Trade-It is cool too, though a bit less intimate.

I used to buy the latest call of duty like 4 days early for 20 extra dollars at this one local place. they didn't even care that they could get busted for it

No, they're a bunch of fucking jewish cunts

>They have a mass amount of classic games
>Overpriced to unholy fuck
>Wants 85 dollars for Super Mario 64
>Wants 150 dollars for Smash Bros
>Games are in horrid condition
>Most N64 games have their label ripped
>Says "I don't know" when asked if the game even works
>Classic consoles are nearly 500
>SNES is missing the box and wires
>Still wants 450 for it

I live in Maine so there aren't many video game stores here, but the ones that are around are insanely overpriced and ran by fat fucks who have no idea how to price things
>>
>Go to local independent mom and pop game store
>All their prices are directly from ebay, $80 for loose N64 cartridges and shit
>Higher prices than Gamestop for modern games

Fuck that place
>>
>>343806295
How do these kinds of stores survive anyway? Nobody is buying that shit.
>>
>>343807712
You'd be very surprised
>>
Hell no. I buy a bunch of shit on Steam. When I'm buying for my consoles I buy from Amazon or eBay.
>>
>>343806295

This is probably the best part because you can get pretty much anything in great condition for <$100

Gunnyside Up queens reportin'

i almost walked into VGNY the other day, but decided against it, i felt bad too. but what you other anons are saying makes sense; i'd rather buy shit on steam/online than go in a store. places like vgny are just there for a physical gathering place of people who are into the same shit.

i may stop by there this week
>>
If we're counting Bookman's then yes
All of their classic games are well priced
Pretty much every PS2 game is 10 bucks or at most 15
Boxed games like Doom on SNES are like 60, but the game itself I'm sure could be found for like 20 at most
You could go in there with like 20 bucks and get shit like Twisted Metal 2 and Syphon Filter
I just wish I had more money. Yesterday I got ZombiU for 10 bucks
