But one cannot argue it has some of the most worthwhile exclusive games of the generation in Splatoon, The Wonderful 101, Pikmin 3, Bayonetta 2, Mario Kart 8, Xenoblade Chronicles X and Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE.

Nintendo's reliance on it's own first and second party software finally caught up with them.
It's been a problem since the N64 days - people don't buy Nintendo hardware for the first parties, they buy them for the Nintendo games, pure and simple. Nintendo has fallen slightly further behind the technology curve with each generation, and at the same time, the quality and quantity expectations of the userbase have grown with each generation. These problems have snowballed from the beginning of 3D right up until the Wii U, where Nintendo physically can't put out even a fraction of the games that their fans are expecting, and them trying to play catch-up with modern gaming has slowed down development even further (they've clearly been having trouble with the switch to HD assets). This problem is compounded by the fact that they also have to divert a good portion of their budget and manpower to support their handheld market, which Microsoft doesn't have to do and Sony try and fail at.
To sum up, people still want Nintendo-esque content (like it or not), but Nintendo cannot deliver it at even a quarter of the quantity people want without sacrificing quality.

Saving Bayo 2 was the boldest move they did this gen, and should've been the beginning of a new era of ushering 3rd party devs back to Nintendo, like they had in the SNES days, but Bayo 2 ended up being a one-off. Then they fell back into their usual flaws of relying too much on the same old Nintendo IPs (Mario Kart, Smash), and their almost-decade-long obsession now with shoehorning gimmicky controls into everything that nobody ever asked for (e.g. Star Fox).
That and yeah, I never liked the name "Wii", and "Wii U" was even stupider. Marketing 101 fail.

1. For most games, the best controller is the one that vanishes from your consciousness, you aren't thinking about it at all you're just immersed in the game. With the Wii U, the literal fucking point of it is to force you to constantly break your immersion by looking away from the game. There are a very few games where it's an enhancement (Fatal Frame is the best example to me) but can't build a console around that.
2. It's a PITA for devs to do anything non-gimmicky with, particularly if they want to make a non-exclusive (which most will).
3. It's inherently super pricey, which means the actual main console is vastly and unnecessarily weaker. And that in turn makes the above problem with devs even worse. In fact it's triply worse, since powering the screen sucks up another chunk of what precious little power the console has anyway!
4. Pricing means that even if it's super expensive for a console gimmick, it still can't possibly compete with even the most basic poorfag smartphone/tablet in screen quality which makes it all even worse.
Fucking stupid. What was going through their heads with this shit, the Wii's gimmick was simple and cheap and meant to build immersion (even if it didn't always work), not wreck it.

Only thing I agree with is the name Wii. It's a fantastic name for marketing to casuals. It's a 1 syllable, easy-to-remember name. There's a reason we call systems by abbreviations, like PS3 or 360. Wii U, on the other hand, is awful. It doesn't roll off the tongue easily, and there's no way to shorten it without adding more syllables. Wii2 would have been better.

No. The NX announcement had literally nothing to do with the Wii U. If you knew anything about Nintendo, you'd know that they always start work on their next console immediately after the last one launched. The Wii started work in 2001 when the Gamecube launched. It's not like they went, "oh shit, the Wii U's failing, better make a new console!" The NX existed either way. They only mentioned it for the reason I already explained. To quell fears they would go mobile only.

I can show you my Wii U and 3DS library. I own every 3DS game pratically, the quality drop off after the second year of the 3DS was ridiculous, most of the better games got ported, and all that's left is children's games of low effort, simple concepts, and handholding.
There is quite literqlly nothing new, innovative or interesting on the 3DS that isnt just taking from already existing series. It is quite literally the platform for watered down games and brand power, where the lowest common denominator are appealed to.
Funny enough, every list of 'worthwhile' games listed include really shit Nintendo games which tells wonders on how poor the general taste of 3DS owners are on this board, moreso when most still look forward to Pokemon. Its the sad reality that the 3DS is something you can never play, and not miss anything important in gaming.
