I play games for the same reason I indulge in films, music, literature etc; because they convey ideas (ideas being the building blocks of culture) and I enjoy engaging in culture. Any game that effectively does this I generally enjoy.
Of the "big devs" you seem so fond of that I'd be glad to see the end of, there's not a single video game release in the past 5 years at least that presents any new idea or does absolutely anything new at all..
