As a company Microsoft will be able to reach way more people than Sony ever will, and with more people realizing that PC is the best option for gaming and migrating there Microsoft has come out of the gates running. Unless Sony can offer experiences on the platform with the most people (PC) they'll be left in the dust and failing to keep up with the competition. If Sony doesn't take advantage of the PC market then they're going to regret it.
Their niche appeal being the console to offer weeb games is already weakening with every vita or PS4 Japanese game being ported to steam.
