You can probably write a thesis on trading in MMOs, but I'll give this a crack.
From the buyer side, and assuming that the trade will be paid in currency and not bargaining with currency + items, haggling is trying to get the good for cheap. Which the seller would most likely see as a loss unless they only focus on individual trades and not over all sales and also playing the game.
To the seller, haggling is an offer to sell your good at a cost to sell it RIGHT THERE. Sure you could spend all day on the trade channel or monitoring the auction house for price changes, but if you have a good generally worth 50k dosh, and someone offers you 35k dosh, and you need the money before some event is up, you'll most likely sell right there.
On the other hand, say some fag doesn't want to pay 50k dosh for one good. So, as the seller, you can sweeten the deal by throwing in some garbage shit that you know isn't worth the effort of trying to sell by itself. You have some dust collector worth 10k that generally doesn't see the market too often because it's garbage. Some chump offers 45k for your actual good. Tell them that if they pay 50k you'll toss in the dust collector. Supposedly, you're losing out on 5k but really where you ever going to bother trying to sell that shit?Granted only a retard would see through this, but trading is all about taking advantage of retards.
Economics isn't just about the amount of money being offered. The amount of time and effort it takes to sell something can impact the value and selling price of the good. It doesn't matter if you got RNGdropped a tradeable +9 Legendary Tier weapon if there are only 50 people who play the class that use it endgame and are willing to buy their gear instead of farming it. Instead of bothering with trying to sell it at the proper price, you would probably throw that shit at the first person to show you an offer with enough digits.
