I like it FAR more than NV, or any of the 3D games.

Two bugged on me really bad and I couldn't finish it even though I got to the end more a less. I also just was liking 1 more pretty much for awhile while playing 2. 2 seemed to get overly obnoxious with the dialogue. Also the combat for these games is nothing special anon. I felt it could have benefited a lot from being ATB or even having a complete overhaul. There's potential in the combat system as is but it needs a ton of work because it's shit desu.

I think New Vegas is best in franchise, but still it doesn't have that unique atmosphere of classical Fallout's. I miss their interactivity (for example, ability to use skills on every object, use explosives to blow up doors etc).

Hell yeah I love Fallout 2.

I've started a new game recently for the first time in like 5 years and just got up to Vault 13 again.

Got Sulik, MY GODDAMN WIFE! and Cassidy in my party.

Pretty fun shit. Playing with the content renewal patch or whatever. Only thing I don't like is Cassidy's talking head - specifically his voice it's pretty bad.

Anyone else doing a playthrough right now?

2 was about 6 hours long considering heading south to san Francisco happens in 2 hours to most players of open world games who head to the far side of the map straight away like i did.

The next game should be set in China. Walking through an untouched Forbidden City, katana in hand, hacking apart super mutants and ghouls in VATS, imagine. You could even get cool weapons from the other side of the war, considering outside of Fallout 3 we only see basic assault rifles and pistols.

Aye. I've decided to force myself to play something that doesn't start with small guns for once and am doing an unarmed playthrough. Already starting to regret that though as it gets a little dull not being able to use different weapons. Might switch to big guns when I can but my 2 perception might fuck me.

Sulik has just died after my assault on Metzger. Might keep him dead instead of reloading.

to be fair, 4 is a very enjoyable game, you just have to take it for granted that even bethesda know now that their fallout thing is largely unrelated to the classic games or NV. its like a reboot or a side story

3 was a cluster fuck, but i feel like after getting BTFO by NV, besthesda have realised where their own strengths are, and where theyre too weak to compete intellectually with better RPG writers

its a fun action game with a good setting and a fair amount of content

It's interesting when you find energy weapons early on and have absolute shit aim. Do you run up point blank and hope for the best without targeting? Do you go for the abysmal chance to hit the eyes or take a higher chance to cripple its legs as energy weapons don't deal less damage in 1/2 depending on skill.

Yes, I like this. NV is a more direct sequel to 2, but 2 is weaker than 1 and NV, so it's still essential playing imo.

I'm an NV fag who fucked around with the originals around the time they came out but never really played them because I was kid. Got FO1 for free from gog a few years ago and grabbed FO2 during the summer sale. I finished FO1 a few days ago and it was actually pretty good. I wish the followers ending/quest was fixed, but c'est la vie. I'm digging FO2 even more and I just got to Vault City. The main issue I'm having with it is the fact I was given an Assault Rifle in Modoc, 50 rounds, and now I can't seem to find any more ammo to buy and I only have one mag left.

What can I say? The game made a soft border to make it difficulty to go towards san fran, hinting it might be TOO HARD for someone your level/equipment. You brute forced it and the game didn't stop you with invisible walls so you bypassed most of the content and won the game early.

I think it's fantastic how it allows you to pretty much break the game without insurmountable obstacles which must FIRST be triggered properly by another quest or such. I'd be thrilled if more games let me do shit like that today.

I don't think replaying a game after beating it exceedingly fast, feeling it's rather shit and short, is very rewarding either.

The combat is much smoother, sure. It doesn't do anything to stand above any of it's competitors though, and a lot of mechanics that aren't gunplay are stale because they're pasted right from Fallout 3 and New Vegas (which I've probably put 700+ hours into combined)
>with a good setting
Nah. There's almost nothing exciting to explore besides the main quest locations. Diamond City is the biggest city in the game by far, which isn't saying much. Not that the focus of Bethesda's games is on cities, but the external environment is bland as shit too. The biggest new thing about the game was the settlement building, which had no payoff because the small attacks you faced were dealt with in seconds.
>and a fair amount of content
Less than any previous Fallout game, besides 1. I clocked 80 hours trying to find more areas worth seeing, but besides the main quest there isn't. There's something like 15 quests that aren't Radiant or connected to the main story.

I like 1 and 2 far more than NV when it comes to almost everything. NV has its moments, and some of the quests are better than anything found in the original two games (How Little We Know and Beyond The Beef) but it's wrapped in so much crap that I had to force myself to keep playing.

By far the biggest problem is the world, it's devoid of content outside of some points of interests. And even then your exploration is gated by progress in the main quests like with the Brotherhood bunker. Then there's just the really depressing parts like the spooky airport on the edge of the map with nothing but some caps in it. Really makes it unrewarding to explore. This wasn't a problem in the old games because the emptiness was presented by an abstract overworld, so you were never teased with structures in the distance or anything like that.

Then there's the shallow unchallenging combat, the removal of any critical thought from skill use, the way skill checks work in general, the fact that most of the NPC's are really dry exposition machines and just the half finished feel of the game.

Is this false flagging? No one defends a game by doing a "guaranteed replies" post which only serves to trigger more people.

at least in 3 and nv you could kill just about anyone except main quest characters that are actually essential to the getting the end screen, 4 just made most of the named characters essential as to not let you break any of todd's quests. even 3 had non essential companions.

I usually just go there around midgame to get equipment/ammo if I have the money then finish the rest of the areas. I'm not one of those faggots that goes straight to navvaro for pa and vindicator which make combat irrelevent for 90% of the content. Do you have to sperg out?

In 3 you can't kill characters that are only related to minor, easily missable sidequests.

If healing can be used on any target (like in fallout 1-2) I equip a weak but precise weapon and then proceed to cripple the last enemy of every random group I face, preferably humanoid types. First I cripple his arms so he can't use 2handed weapons and aim like shit with 1handed, then I cripple his legs so he can't run away far.

After every hit I check his HP with the awareness perk and heal him up good with superstims when he's near death. After that I carefully cripple the eyes and the crotch until only the head remains. Usually he has now collapsed a couple of times and can only run away a few steps per turn while occasionally slapping me on the cheek with a non-damaging punch. I unequip my weapons and pound him in the head until he goes fully unconscious. For good measure I throw rocks on his groin until he is very low on health. Lastly I go to sleep next to his body for an hour or so, just chilling, and when I wake up I see a fresh corpse some distance away, lying in a pool of his own blood. He didn't even go for the gun I dropped in the middle of the zone.

His entire body crippled beyond repair, eyes blinded, groin devastated, riddled with bullets and severe fatal wounds yet what killed him wasn't the bleeding or the shock. The superstim backlash had strangled the last life out of him just moments before he could walk out of the grid.

Yeah, THIS is what's wrong with you fucking Xbox-generation console morons. You only ever judge a game by its combat, literally skipping all the other gameplay elements in a goddamn ROLE-playing game.

Also, I greatly prefer the turn-based, more tactical combat over the literal FPS with RNG + levels shit the 3D ones have.

Fallout 2 combat is not only atrocious but also luck based and unbalanced as fuck.
Let me remind you of the myriad map encounters that have you start close to 6+ gun using enemies no matter your PER score
Or the simple fact that if you get hit with a critical from a burst weapon you are pretty much dead no matter your stats, same if you get knocked down
Or how 70% of the perks do useless shit nobody would ever bother getting
At least the first Fallout didn't have these fucking retarded map encounters
