don't really play many puzzlers these days, but the eagle tower in links awakening when i was a kid make me ragequit the game.

i didn't know how to find guides and i was completely stumped. who knew you had to LITERALLY DESTROY THE TOWER TO PROGRESS.

however it's shit like this that gets me hard for the grid-like 2d zelda games. such a pure medium and 100% puzzle focused. are there any modern games this fun?

You wouldn't like Oracle of Ages then, where every step of the way is just one rage-inducing puzzle to the next. When you get to the final boss fight do you know how you find out the boss's weakness? There's a single line of dialogue back somewhere at the game's halfway point that vaguely tells you. Good luck if you not only interpreted it correctly but also remembered to keep it in mind, otherwise you're gonna be pissing in the wind as you whittle down that life bar of the first phase.

Most puzzles in normal video games are generally simple or just non-intuitive. Purer puzzle games can throw some real doozies though.

Playing English Country Tune I was surprised by actually having to make a puzzle to complete myself, the puzzle itself using goal mechanics I had yet to see previously as well.

I'm interested in Increpare's new game, Sausage Roll, but 30 bucks is a bit too steep for me.

I have beaten this game dozens of times through my childhood and until recently I always thought you had to throw the ball over the long pit to destroy the last tower via a glitch(?). Why WHY WHY did this make you do that shitty "puzzle" over and over again.

Pacing reasons. The combat was fairly gratifying but they couldn't just make endless streams of combat for dungeons so they had to slow you down somehow to give you a break.

>>
>>343752284
No shit but they didn't have to recycle the same non-puzzle a dozen times. It honestly feels like they just put it in as a placeholder whenever they needed a puzzle and never bothered to replace it with real puzzles.

It's not so much that it's hard, but you have to do so many steps over again just to try anything over again. La Mulana had a weight puzzle problem which had stones of various weights and you had to get them all to be even on two scales.

you have have to factor in your own weight, which is only hinted at by a scale written in La-Mulanese

>>343783042
A group of people with assorted eye colors live on an island. They are all perfect logicians -- if a conclusion can be logically deduced, they will do it instantly. No one knows the color of their eyes. Every night at midnight, a ferry stops at the island. Any islanders who have figured out the color of their own eyes then leave the island, and the rest stay. Everyone can see everyone else at all times and keeps a count of the number of people they see with each eye color (excluding themselves), but they cannot otherwise communicate. Everyone on the island knows all the rules in this paragraph.

On this island there are 100 blue-eyed people, 100 brown-eyed people, and the Guru (she happens to have green eyes). So any given blue-eyed person can see 100 people with brown eyes and 99 people with blue eyes (and one with green), but that does not tell him his own eye color; as far as he knows the totals could be 101 brown and 99 blue. Or 100 brown, 99 blue, and he could have red eyes.

The Guru is allowed to speak once (let's say at noon), on one day in all their endless years on the island. Standing before the islanders, she says the following:

"I can see someone who has blue eyes."

Who leaves the island, and on what night?

There are no mirrors or reflecting surfaces, nothing dumb. It is not a trick question, and the answer is logical. It doesn't depend on tricky wording or anyone lying or guessing, and it doesn't involve people doing something silly like creating a sign language or doing genetics. The Guru is not making eye contact with anyone in particular; she's simply saying "I count at least one blue-eyed person on this island who isn't me."

And lastly, the answer is not "no one leaves."
>>
>>343783247
After 100 nights all the blue-eyed people leave.
>>
>>343783247
She says: I can see someone who has blue eyes.

All blue eyes people will start looking at eachother as they think she is pointing out someone specific. Of course they dont look at the browneyed people since they are brown eyed. So everyone figures out that the people others looked at most are blue eyed people so they leave the first night.

The brown eyed people however cannot leave since they saw the blue eyed people leave so they only know they are all blueeyed. Sure they know that they are not blue eyed but they might be one of the two people having green eyes. Guru and just them.
>>
>>343754471
Damn, this takes me back.
>>
>>343783247
So I assume this person is only at the blue people's area? Because if it is, then only the blues will leave. If this is the case, and she say this once a day, then it will be 100 days until all blue are gone.

The guru says this. A person then looks around, and if he can see no other blue eyed people he leaves. If he can see one blue eyed person, he knows that either he is the only one or they are both blue eyed. If on the first day the blue eyed person does not leave, then he knows they are both blue eyed and they both leave. A third party watching this would know that, if there are no other blues and they do not leave on the second night, he must be blue eyed and they leave on the third. Repeat ad infinitum.

All 100 blue eyed people leave on the 100th night

>"Most people in Continental Europe and increasingly in the UK and Ireland as well as Latin America write 7 with a line in the middle ("7"), sometimes with the top line crooked. The line through the middle is useful to clearly differentiate the character from the number one, as these can appear similar when written in certain styles of handwriting. This glyph is used in official handwriting rules for primary school in Russia, Ukraine, Poland, other Slavic countries, as well as in France, Finland, Portugal, Romania, Germany and Hungary."

Correct.

Now comes the bonus round

1. What is the quantified piece of information that the Guru provides that each person did not already have?
2. Each person knows, from the beginning, that there are no less than 99 blue-eyed people on the island. How, then, is considering the 1 and 2-person cases relevant, if they can all rule them out immediately as possibilities?
3. Why do they have to wait 99 nights if, on the first 98 or so of these nights, they're simply verifying something that they already know?
