I never minded this or the Human Revolution filters. I hate that people shit on good coloring that establishes an atmosphere and a distinct look with juvenile jokes. They're still designed to be explosives though. After 200 years, you wouldn't be able to tell besides seeing weird crater depressions in the land. The goal of nuclear weaponry is to annihilate the current civilization its targeting, not prevent anyone from ever living there again. H-bombs have been tested several times all over the world, and you still don't hear about the sky turning green and cows sprouting second heads.

Neither one looks very good. I'd say left, though. The sickly colors make it look more like a wasteland, while the natural ones on the right give the impression of a very uninteresting countryside. If you can't have good graphics, make the bad ones look intentional.

Nuclear bombs don't contaminate nearly as much as a reactor explosion does. The worst particles decay and disappear at a logarithmic rate. Chernobyl is still deadly at some locations, whereas Hiroshima and Nagasaki are totally safe. You could drop 10 atomic bombs on DC and 6 months later it would be safer than Chernobyl 30 years later.

>>
>>343741067
They would absorb and emit x-rays, which are not visible.
>>
>>343741067
Nice truism. Of course ionised particles can absorb and emit light at a different wavelength, it's a matter of there being sufficient concentration of these ionised particles to alter the light enough for human perception.

Considering this effect has not been even casually reported after the thousands of nuclear detonations that have occurred in the last 70 years, it is unlikely these particles will exist in such high concentrations 200 years after a nuclear apocalypse. Most likely all the atmospheric fallout will have made its way into the soil by then.

The problem is they're not though. We don't use radioactive material as the primary payload. Bombs that use only fissile material have a low cap on their maximum possible explosive strength with current technology. The much more powerful fusion bombs use a small amount of uranium to create a large amount of heat and pressure to initiate the fusion reaction. The total radiation output is low to begin with and believes to be safe to live around within a few decades.

Submerged uranium emits electrons and positrons faster than they would normally move in water, and that deceleration produces blue light. Plutonium when exposed to air spontaneously combusts, producing a red glow and plutonium oxide gas.

>cows sprouting second heads.

Most of the mutations in Fallout 1, 2 and NV were caused by the FEV leak from WestTek. Washington and Boston shouldn't have mutants because they're thousands of miles away from California. But Bethesda put mutants in there anyway because fuck you.

Ghouls are the only mutation caused purely by radiation, which is just as much sci-fi as the whole concept of the FEV.

But if you look at the state of the world in Fallout 3, listen to the NPCs, loot the buildings and measure the radiation of things like river water, it's pretty obvious that the nuclear war took place last week. There isn't much to indicate that generations of people have lived in the wasteland. Nothing makes sense in the context of 200 years. Except if you factor in Bethesda's incompetence.
