Non Meme answer:
It's a JRPG series that parodies console wars and the game industry. Primarily the Japanese industry. The games up till now have been rather mediocre, but found a large audience with the cute girls and video game references. The characters are the main selling point, who are likeable enough in my opinion.

Neptunia V-II, the most recent game in the main series is actually rather good though. Not the best JRPG ever, but a lot of fun.
>>
>>343720146
Only the very first game had random battles
Every enemy you can see on the field
If they notice you they will charge at you

No you cant because you need those enemys to level up
>>
>>343720416
V2 is about the period where people are looking for new godesses
In our sence its the time when the next console generation comes out
And they are fighting what was trying to replace them
Ignore the shitposter who think only the girls are the selling point

All nep games are garbage, since they're you're typical JRPG grindfests with piss-easy content that can be made evene asier via overlevelling. Their only selling point are the dumb moesluts and the shitty "story" with gameplay being absolute dogshit.

The only exception to this rule is the Hyperdevotion: Goddess Black Heart game, since it's not a JRPG, but a SRPG with actually good gameplay that completely lacks any sort of grinding incentive (there's absolutely no reason whatsoever to grind, but you can still do it). In fact, it's so non-grindy, that you can accidentally overlevel somewhat just by completing all of the side quests, if you use only one team of characters throughout the whole game.

>And what makes the gameplay in Noire's game good?

Compared to other SRPGs? A healthy focus on environmental hazards during combat, which makes most story missions feel unique. There are almost no straightforward "advance forward and kill shit" stages in the main story.

A healthy variation in mission objectives. Again, there aren't that many "kill them all" missions in the main story.

A bigger emphasis on character links and teamwork than most SRPGs out there. Also, even though character links are very powerful (actually, potentially overpowered if you know how to milk the system for all it's worth), the system requires you to cluster your units together, which sometimes, depending on the opposition, may be a disadvantage to a certain degree due to your susceptibility to powerful AoE attacks, so it kinda has drawbacks as well, which is a good attempt at balance.

Every character has a unique skillset and there's a good variety of characters, which isn't something we see often in SRPGs.

Healthy level of difficulty on Hard, especially if you try to ignore the environmental hazards and rush in.

Oh, I'm an idiot for missing that post.
What do you mean by "no strategy"? Is there less depth to the combat than in other neptunia games, despite the fact that it's a SRPG? Does this mean that other neptunia games actually focus on strategy over grinding, then?

>>343732392
I see. Would you say that the major/recurring characters are decently developed but the minor characters detract from the game? Maybe it's because I haven't played any nep games and have played lots of srpgs, but I don't see the problem with having some filler characters.

You may move around on squares and take turns moving characters like in Fire Emblem, but there's no strategy or planning involved. Just attack however you feel like and you win. It's basically just a really, really slowed down mainline game. It had potential by trying to emulate games like Disgaea or Fire Emblem, but did not exploit the potential in any valuable way. It's much like a Bethesda game, where it has features, but they're not implemented well at all and it just feels pointless.

>>343733653
When an SRPG has no strategy, then its gameplay is shit, no matter what. That's the only complaint I needed to make on the gameplay.

>inb4 moving goalposts
Not really, I'm just curious since you clearly despise the entire series yet praise Sting's game despite that other people pointed out why it's bad, the interesting part is that you ONLY talk about gameplay aspects, nothing rearding the story or characters, which honestly only convinces me that you are defending this as a Sting fan, again, as many people pointed out, there's not going to be any strategy because of how laughably easy the game is, you aren't in any danger for lumping characters together because you'll kill everything before you even get damaged, the other things you talk about ARE there, but they are handled poorly and inbalanced

tl;dr Stop being a sting fanboy and look at something other than gameplay and you might see why fans of the series hate it

>>343734420
Not an argument.

>>

>tl;dr Stop being a sting fanboy and look at something other than gameplay and you might see why fans of the series hate it

Not him but I am finding the gameplay to be the worst aspect of Noire's game. It's so basic and barebones, not to mention the horrible movement system that is combined with maps that have traps EVERYWHERE (looking at you, Lid's boss map)

Or the fact if you fall too far from a height you take damage and END YOUR TURN
>>
>>343733295
That sounds interesting, thanks for explaining. From the gameplay videos I've seen it looks kind of like Summon Night, but maybe that's just a superficial resemblance. Does it have a lot of similarities with Sting's older games?

What's the best way to get the most out of the game? I prefer my SRPGs to be somewhat challenging and you said earlier that you might accidentally overlevel if you do side quests, so I'm not sure if I should skip the side quests to keep it challenging. What do you recommend?
And what about the DLC, does it add overpowered stuff that breaks the main story's balance?
>>
rip n1
>>
>>343734704
I wouldn't call itthe worst aspect, but it definetly has fuckton of issues, writing is what a lot of people hate, Sting got too much freedom with a series they weren't familiar with, writing is all over the damn place

ITT: nepshit "fanbase." That's literally the best part of the game.

>>343734750
>What's the best way to get the most out of the game?
Just play all of the main story missions and the sidequests ONCE, unless you REALLY want to craft some sort of General/CPU weapon that you don't have materials for and if you do grind for materials, use different characters and don't overlevel your main team.

Regarding DLC, I've started already with all of it so I can't really compare to vanilla. From my experience, the main game breaking culprit is the lily support system, but only if you milk it for all it's worth and spam AoE special moves.

>>
>>343736147
>I honestly believe cranking it up to hard will not change a damn thing.
Yes it will. At the very least, it will convert the lily support system from a surely game breaking feature into a borderline necessary and somewhat overpowered feature and this very feature is the main difficulty related complaint about the game.
>>
>>343735904
Not that guy but I was playing it on Hard and all the strategy I ever used was stack Lily Boost to oneshot everything before it oneshotted me.

I'll admit that the levels where you only have Vert, Neptune and Blanc and you have to defeat all your allies plus some tough enemies were pretty fun. My characters went from severly underleveled to complete powerhouses in those.

Define "abuse". If you score 80 LPs and execute a special move each round, it's not exactly abuse, it's using the system for all it's worth. If you play like this, then you will finish the game without much difficulty even on Hard, but it can be argued that using the lily system to its maximum potential takes skill (character positioning in ways that you can actually execute your skills to gain LPs), so it's not like you're "cheesing" without applying any sort of skill.

Still, I wish the lily system wasn't so powerful, it would make this game near perfect gameplay wise.

Status conditions usually work in Nep games - its just that your characters often barely possess any debuff or status moves in the first place.
>>
Storywise, are nep 7 and noire's game viable starting points for the series, or is there anything I should play first?
>>
>>343738465
VII is the sequel of Mk2/RB2 and Victory/RB3, but it really doesn't matter for the most part if you haven't played those.

Noire's game like other spinoffs are stand alone.
>>
>>343738465
Just play the latest game since they feature reused assets and copy/paste level design out the ass.
>>
>>343718168
When will those 2 just fuck already?

Is there a PC grill in the series?

>>
>>343738076
5 hours too late, but I'm pretty sure that just means you have to manually cure it instead of waiting for it to wear off
>>
>>343757892
Farming Lily ranks in that game is borderline retarded even compared to other Nep games. I did first set manually and then wrote an Autohotkey script that spammed a skill hundred times and refilled mana when necessary. Only 3 characters don't have a spammable skill. Overall, this bullshit took 80-100 hours.

I don't even know why I bother, but I like 100%-ing Nep games including the stuff that's not included in the achievements like farming all costume and CPU sets
>>
>>343742926

It's pretty much a graphic novel with bits of gameplay thrown in just so that it can be classified as an RPG. The characters and interactions are what sell the game, really.

That said, I really wish this series had more going on in terms of actual game design (better stages, bosses, plot, etc). I still love it though.

All I have is a shitty toaster with a Q9300 2.5GHz and a GeForce 9600GT. I can still run Noire's game on max resolution at 60fps, though.

The heck was with the difficulty jump for Vert's?

By comparison in Blanc's story, you basically obliterate everything effortlessly without ever needing to level off unnecessary fights, and then Vert has a huge dungeon with 3 bosses that force you to level up to even have a chance.
