There has never been a game that has started off as strong as FFXIII to only go full retard and fall off the tracks as early and as hard as it did. It was an absolute shitshow from start to finish and it deserves all the criticism it gets and do not even get me started on XIII-2 and Lightning Majora's Mask.

On XIII-2, yes. It fixes all the problems of the first game.
Not XIII-1 though. That piece of shit is a soulless empty hallway with very little sidequests and extra content and a plot so far up it's own ass that it restricts the player to not be able to backtrack much at all or even go to towns/talk to npcs.
