The problem is that the storyline content for XIV is abysmal. The dungeons are alright but the MSQ stuff is the worst RPG plot ive seen in ages with tacked on fetch quests, pick up shiny object quests, and walk across the continent to talk to one person then report back to the Waking Sands quests.
I say this as someone who is actively still playing. The beginner leveling needs a revamp, but Yoshi's proposed boost potions arent the answer either. Too many key features are hidden or neglected, too many of the introduction quests are dull until 50, and the group gating while good for an MMO suffers especially for DPS players.

Bot WoW and XIV get stale if you play them for long. And considering they're MMO's that's going to happen eventually. To me, it all comes down to aesthetics. I like FFXIV far more because I like how it looks. The gear, the music (based Soken), the visual spectacles when doing fights for the first time, and the story post 2.5.

1: It's the first teleport on the list
2: the market board is right next to the main aetheryte
3: other amenities (Grand Company, Inn room) are easily accessed by the Aftcastle aetheryte
people will say Ul'Dah because the GC is right next to the main aetheryte, but that aetheryte itself is in an annoying location and the market board has to be teleported to and then loaded from another area. Then there's just the rest of Ul'dah in general.

get marauder (guild at limsa) or conjurer (guild at gridania) and level it up to level 16 so you can access dungeons. believe me, you'll get into duties SO much faster than you ever will otherwise. it's the difference between waiting 3 to 5 minutes or 30 to 60 minutes for duty finder

Female roes are a close second for me. My old fc leader was a femroe who made is donate gil to the fc chest if we wanted to rank up. A different femroe in my next fc got really upset when our static would do anything at all without them, even if we were already doing it when they logged in
