That's a skill check though. Does NV even have SPECIAL checks? I forget.
>>
>>343697952
It's a dumb skill check regardless. I think it does, very few though.

Unlike the retarded three-dog shit, that piece of NV dialogue cleverly pointed out a fallacy.

It's your character noticing something is off, because the guy fired three shots and there are four guys.

A retard like you wouldn't understand, but it's not about you being able to use your intelligence, it's your character.
>>
>>343699665
Good god you're such a fanboy. The intelligence required to subtract 3 from 4 is about as low as what you'd need to make sense of what 3-Dog meant.

but I think it was more like a filtration pump that is constantly cyclying water and removing radiation with filtres and shit

why the fuck should it be STR
>>
>>343704721
So takes in water from the river into a pump in that station place, where there's some pipe in there giving out fresh water?

Just thinking of a method that supports my thought that maybe the Enclave were looking to have power over people in the Capital Wasteland by lording it over the one source of clean water; though the way I half-remember it is it just magically purifies the water and as such there is truly no point fighting over it.

I found this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2fX7U4o5hQ a few minutes ago while bored and searching, honestly I don't even know. Not sure why I'm even trying to find ways to have sympathy for the shitty writing in F3, I really had very little time for that game when I played it.
>>
>>343705934
ye I think it would have been more accurate for them to found a bottling plant at proect purity and distribute from there while most open water remains irradiated

radiation is so saturated in the environment one purifier wont make that much difference
>>
>>343703505
Why would they need money? they are entirely self sufficient and have an army of soldiers all with their very own power armor and deadly energy weapons. If they want something they take it.

>>343703617
I would be more worried about the brotherhood having optimus prime at their disposal rather than a shitty water purifier. They should have stormed the citadel with their literally infinite supply of enclave troopers and vertibirds and take the giant death robot for themselves.

It's been a while, but I'm almost positive there's a perception check for that event as well as an intelligence check.

>>343699889
Being keen enough to pick up on the fact that within a split second or two only 3 bullets were fired and there were 4 bodies is intelligences. The only problem is the game also comes with a perception skill, which fits the bill better for that type of skill check.

>>343699902

Out of all the areas we have seen in every Fallout game, where would you live?

New Vegas wouldn't seem too bad, but Vault city is also prety good.
>>
>>343707237
NCR is best town.
>>
>>343705934
I never finished Fallout 3, so this might be a silly question, but does the purifier clean up its surroundings or just the river? And whats stopping the river from being continually contaminated from its surroundings, given how fucking shit the DC wasteland is.
>>
>>343707237
I'd live somewhere comfy near Zion. Everything there looks so nice, and not to mention all the water that runs through the valley is clean. Set up some crops and you're practically self sufficient.
>>
>>343707662
And then one day you get your head blown off by a white leg with an anti-materiel rifle.
>>
>>343706458
Yeah that seems like a way more logical situation.

>>343706843
Well I was more figuring they wanted a way to have control over the non-Enclave in the Wasteland; easy to do that if you control an essential resource since you can charge for it.

>>343707401
Honestly can't remember, that video I linked in the post makes me think the implication was that the purifier cleans it all (though if you're Enclave it... makes the water give you SUPER AIDS or something because they're fucking comic book villain tier writing) but I really can't remember.
>>
>>343707237

>>
>>343708285
This, goodsprings is the comfiest place on earth. Easy pete even lets you sleep in his house if you don't have a place to crash.
>>
>>343708259
So would that include that ship city place? From what I remember it was right by it. So yeah, that kinda solidifies how stupid the writing was since in that case any fucker could waltz up to it and get a drink since the Enclave clearly didn't have the manpower to fortify an area like that. Water pump, maybe; but not an area like that.

>>343708303
Yeah I've got vague memories of that, something about how they wanted to counter the FEV or something. Video makes it out like they threw the baby out with the bathwater and killed everyone making it even more comic book tier.

I was trying to be an optimist about this game for once and, shit, I'm honestly hating it even more than I did before. Thank fuck I didn't buy it on the Steam Sale the other night while drunk.
>>
>>343697828

>>
Reminder the Enclave wanted to pump the FEV into the water and kill all muties who drank it which is basically the entire capital wasteland's inhabitants because of radiation leak everywhere

>>
>>343697952

I'm pretty sure it has several of them. I remember one in Dead Money where you needed 7 Perception to tell someone was lying to you.
>>
>>343708303
>If I remember correctly the Enclave wants to put in a virus that will exterminate mutants whenever they drink from the "purified" water.
And by "mutants", they mean "literally everyone who wasn't born in the Enclave or a Vault".
>>
>>343709428
Nope. Just the lake in front of the purifier, the River in Rivet City is still contaminated
>>
>>343712316
Which also includes yourself, since you were actually born outside the Vault before Dad brought you there as a baby.

>>343711124

>>
>>343697952
In Dead Money, someone tells you directions to navigate through a deadly and hazardous cloud. You need to pass a Perception check to notice that he didn't say he meant HIS right, not yours.
>>
>>343712534
Would you include yourself among those to be removed? Because in FO3, you would have to.

I've noticed that those who call for exterminating "lesser" people never seem to include themselves for some reason.

>>
So why is New Vegas better than 3???

Just playing NV after 3 right now and it's basically just a faloout 3 with ADS and a smaller map, just like a expansion.
>>
>>343713690
Yes, it's real. This is Bethesda we're talking about, after all. Bad writing shouldn't really come as a surprise.

That said, I do think FO3 is better than NV for random exploration and dungeon crawling, if that's your thing. On one level, it's cool how just about everything in NV is linked to one plot or another, but sometimes you just want to go into a dungeon and have fun shooting stuff without having to make any big decisions or deal with NPCs.
>>
>>343714047
Better writing, player options have way more visible weight in the world, hardcore mode included as standard.

Those would be my big three reasons why I like the game more.
>>
>>343714047
it isn't
fallout 3 had some special intangible magic that all the extra quests, features and all that shit NV had on top of it simply couldn't beat

3 had atmosphere
>>
>>343714047
- Better writing
- Better use of RPG mechanics (skill checks, SPECIAL checks)
- Companions with actual stories, quests, and dialogue
- Choices that actually matter
- Ending slides that tell you how you affected the world in much more detail than FO3 did
- Crafting and weapon mods
- Different ammo types
- Vastly greater weapon variety
- Several NPCs voiced by Laura Bailey

I think by "greenish", he meant that the entire game has an actual greenish tint, not that things looked lively or colorful.

>Playing new vegas felt like living in a pretty much civilised society that gets dangerous on the outskirts
Well, that was the intention. Part of Fallout is that the world is rebuilding, and in the NCR's case, is basically rebuilt already, despite Chris Avellone's desire to nuke everything all over again and start over from immediate post-apocalypse.
>>
>>343714997
They aren't dumb as a sack of hammers, though. There's Fawkes in F3 and as established in New Vegas (which frankly dealt with the setting way better than F3 which just wanted the super mutants to be bullet sponge enemies) the super mutants weren't all complete dipshits.

But yeah go ahead and tell me what your "real world parallel" is, this will be a laugh.

A handful of tolerable super mutants is a small price to pay for the eradication of the shit ones (all but 1 in all of DC) and all the feral ghouls.
>>
>>343716623
its possible the drier climate would have reduced the amount of radiation distribution in the local area less rainfall and that.

But with a global nuclear apocalypse I doubt it would make much difference
>>
>>343716203
Yeah Ikr the Mojave should be a dryhole still society builds better there, If so then would places like the Midwest be a safe haven for a climate balance and less radiation, seeing as its like a less known and habitated region of USA?
>>
>>343716623
I don't think the ambient temperature has any effect on ghoulification. Water would probably be harder to come by, but the fact that it's irradiated doesn't matter so much; everyone's water is irradiated, and ghouls are still the minority.

Also I remember house mentioning that he had missile defence systems installed that defended NV and the local area from maybe 90% of targeted nukes. if the rest of the west had this tech but it wasn't transported to the east in time this could explain how society manages better over there.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the original founders actually intend for the BoS to be upstanding defenders of the people, and only over time did they become corrupt and turn into self-righteous, tech-hoarding pricks?

You mean other than the fact that it was very likely he'd execute us once he had the code and we'd outlived our usefulness? And in fact, that's exactly what he does if you do give him the code?

It's hilarious that your dad needed a GECK when a multi staged reverse osmosis system would clean the water of radiation just as well. Filters are so easy to make that it's commonly taught to children in those survival clubs like boy scouts. I like to imagine that everyone in the Capital Wasteland is severely retarded that the most intelligent of them(your dad) overshoot their requirements instead of making a simple solution. But we all know why it's like this, Bethesda is retarded.

To be fair, I'm pretty sure Fallout radiation was magic even before Bethesda got involved. Although if they were going with that explanation, they shouldn't have let you build filters left and right in FO4 with some duct tape and scrap metal.

I did think it strained credibility a bit that my high-Intelligence Courier somehow knew enough Latin to bluff that captured Legion guy into thinking I'm there to kill him so he'll tell me what he knows. Just because someone is smart doesn't mean they had access to the materials they'd need to learn something.
