You don't need to install BF2 to run PR anymore.

Companies have to defend their copyrights or risk losing them. However, effectively running a 3rd party login server is not really an infringement. I'm sure they can find some reason to sue and shut this down if they wanted but it's not worth the effort unless this somehow becomes real competition for their games. And lets face it, it won't. It will only pull in nostalgic fans of the game.
If this is real I'm hyped as fuck.

As it's in beta, it's not using battlelog.co accounts but you need to create one in game. When the game gets released it will use battelog.co accounts, so it will be the same account for both, BF2 and BF2142

It's night time in Europe. During the day a lot of times both Battlefield 2 EU and US Battlelog servers are full.

First it's not a mod, more like a reskin and improved version of the game. Also if I remember correctly BF2 Revive started a little bit before Gamespy servers went down. Soon after, BF2 Revive provided a way to play BF2 and kept fixing bugs, developed launcher.
So BF2 is already being managed by them for about 2 years, BF2142 started as most of the work with BF2 got finished.
Reason why there are no players even though there is a working server is because hardly any people know where to download the launcher. Even in the official forum there are only screenshots.
