Anon, I think you need to seek help, purple instead of grey is the last thing you'd want to call a marketing scheme, and the only reason its around is because of art from DL2 which was approved in japan, probably by shimomura as well. And its not a yellow Kirby situation, even in that case the american marketing went with a safe, neutral route as to not make their own decisions on Kirby's color
Any of Coo's current incarnations are also completely devoid of marketing, he's not a selling point, most people don't even recognize him, the choice to make him purple was all on the games' artist who should have the freedom to make him purple if they goddamn please
They even have a logical reason, one is a stage hazard that needs to stand out for gameplay reasons, and one is a game who's main focus is colors and such which didn't' even need his cameo to begin with, but it works better in the context of paint to use vibrant ones

Eh I dunno about "artistic freedom" but Coo used the DL3 design in DL2, he was even colored grey in the Super Gameboy intro and ending. Clearly he was always intended to be grey and there were disagreements on how Coo should look, remember if you were around back then these were going to be "the new main characters" up until Kirby 64 got gutted to hell then Shimomura vanished, they were pretty important.
I dunno why the new devs would make him purple when he was always intended to be grey, I personally think he looks cooler grey. Maybe there are no devs left who took part in creating/implementing Coo and looked up official art for reference, maybe there are only devs left who wanted him purple, who knows.
You could see Rick just fine and he's primarily white against white trees. Big 3D animated moving targets with proper lighting and shading won't blend into a flat unmoving background no matter the color, they could have easily made him grey with yellow lighting shining on his white belly like they did Rick. I think giving Shimomura's characters really vibrant colors is like a (albiet quite minor) spit in the face to his legacy since that's exactly the style he avoided. You're right they arw just fanservice cameo appearances, so it shouldn't be too hard getting it right.

DL3 has a few inconsistencies with its art. Ado for example has brown hair and bead eyes in the overworld portrait and her sprite, but she has black hair and regular eyes in the intro, the ending, and the boss butch.

Its back in the days of separately drawn assets and still some palette limitations, the way I see is that Coo has light, greyish and purple feathers, but from one sprite to another the purple was accentuated or not at all present due to various reasons, for sprites its always important to consider the backgrounds it'll be against and how it will look
With Ado, black hair is really just dark brown hair and the eyes depend on the size of the sprite and whatever aesthetic they wanted to hit, as there's that one kawaii anime Ado while her sprite was meant to be super chibi size and could only accommodate the bead eyes
It just goes to show they weren't married to the specific minute color difference but just the established overall palette (you'll note the greens of Ado's shirt are different as well) and willing to flex it for good art, and making a fuss over it is silly when you go past simple opinions and personal preference into some misguided statement about artistic integrity or whatever was begin argued earlier

Dedede in Kirby's Adventure was great. He trained hard to be able to fly like Kirby for this fight, he had actual good intentions behind his actions, fight had a great backdrop and afterwards was a really fun twost ending. It also established that Dedede is more than a generic 2-dimensional rival, and was capable of having depth and experiencing character development.

I like that Dedede has grew to become a better person since the good old days, but there must still be ways of making him an actual antagonist in spin-offs, and he can still be a devious selfish dick despite being a decent guy. Like make the game about a friendly rivalry. Like in the same spirit as Tilt n' Tumble and Gourmet Race. Kirby Fighters Deluxe gave a small taste of that, but it wasn't a real game.

The second Masked DeDeDe fought similarly as well. He, like the Masked DeDeDe from Super Star Ultra, basically added a new dynamic to his original fighting style. Nothing particularly wrong with that, but let's not pretend like this was an entirely new enemy here. At his core, he was DeDeDe, his fighting style didn't change that dramatically.
You could argue that his second form in Robobot was quite a departure though. Because literally nothing about that resembled anything from the previous games.

This song always brings me back to sitting around and playing this game with family around me and playing with my grandpa in the waves.
