They dont socialize, some cant communicate well with others, they have no friends but the ones they see in their meetings at the campus with other retarded kids. A lot of them like it because games are hard and they dont understand the goals, or mechanics and they lose, makes them feel dumb or hurts their self asteem, so they play games that cannot be won or you cannot lose in. garry's mod has been out for like 10 years. If you are really into a game it's pretty easy to put that many hours into it over a decade.
I put a little over 6000 hours into TF2 from 2008 to 2014.
What a god damn waste of time, FUCK. Now I only even play overwatch if it's with my IRL friends, because I feel I've already put too much of my life into playing these class based shooters.

BEAR in mind this is only since February last year (2015).
I've played this game for over 7 years, and in that time i've clocked over 8months in game time.
So basically i've sat at a computer for 8months these past 7years playing this one game. On a positive note nothing else i've played exceeds the 200hour limit minus Skyrim.

It kinda fell dramaticall a couple of years back but with the release of Gondor and new raiding/end game content (rather than appealing to a casual base) its picked itself back up and is somewhat alive again. Doubt it'll still be around after the next 3years or so though.
