I didn't like Axiom Verge that much. It was definitely trying to be Metroid but just not as fun and a lot more linear.

Didn't play Axiom Verge but Shantae was very good albeit pretty short. I've finished it in 6 hours or a bit more. It's a well designed platformer with fun challenges, beautiful artwork and cheerful music. I couldn't ask for more to be perfectly honest and had a lot of fun.
