The new guys were better except for Eric, who was insufferable. Carlos and Diana were easily the best characters in the game.
Meanwhile, Junpei and Akane were awful (though people say Junpei is a lot less annoying if you use the Japanese VA, which I believe), Phi was mediocre but irrelevant, and Sigma was fine but pretty milquetoast.
I liked Carlos and Diana. Sigma was cool, but they dropped the ball with Phi. Wish Akane wasn't there, though. Should have replaced her with Clover.

In fact, no one from the VLR cast ever does anything to stop the R6 outbreak, find out who Brother is, or stop FtS. They just want to escape.
Junpei and Seven do more harm to FtS before the game starts than Sigma, Phi or Akane ever did.
